We all know that the Internet is full of crazies. Loonies. Nutsos. Especially when it comes to tampering with their favorite hobbies, namely gaming. When that game happens to be Diablo III, it seems that people move from regular crazy into the territory of slobbering fanboy crazy, which is a different kind of crazy altogether.
After all of the months of moaning about the brighter more colorful approach to the world of Diablo, Blizzard says that fans will have more reasons to hate them in the near future, when they release the next class of character that can be found in the game.
Right now, only two classes have been revealed, the Barbarian and Witch Doctor, the second of those two throwing Necromancer fans into downright upheaval. Here’s a quote from Jay Wilson, lead designer of Diablo III:
ll the barbarian players are delighted and all the necromancers hate us. I understand, I don’t begrudge them that. I would hate me too! But what I would say is that when we announce the next class, which is quite similar to a previous class, then all those players will hate us too. You can’t make everybody happy, but I think when the game finally come out players will find there’s a good class for them, one they will love as much as the ones that came before. And if they don’t, I absolutely promise that in the expansions we’ll consider bringing back old classes.
Personally, I think it’s nuts that this many people are just losing their minds about a game that isn’t even out yet. I didn’t think the change in the art style was all that big of a deal, and really, I trust Blizzard to deliver one hell of a hack and slash.
What do you guys think? Is Blizzard taking a bunch of missteps, or are you excited about the game regardless?

All the vitriol from the Diablo community is understandable, if a little over-blown.
You take a game that some of these people has been playing for 9 years, and announce a bunch of changed, and get rid of 90% of the classes, you’re going to get some backlash.
I think that the expectations for D3 are ridiculously high, and Blizzard realizes this. No doubt D3 will be an excellent game for what it is, but BLizzard is just trying to assuage the hardcore Diablo crowd by preparing them for something that they don’t want to hear.
Oh, I’m sorry, I thought this was a SEQUEL, not a remake.
If you lose your favorite class and have to play the game differently than the previous one, isn’t that a good thing?
If you want to play it like the old, just save money and play the old one.
In short: get a life, virgins.
I totally agree. For Blizzard to make a high-res Diablo 2 would be a waste of highly talented people.
How is the games industry supposed to grow if legions of fans just want the same crap over and over? We’ve already got Halo, so I say bring on the rainbows and the Witch Doctors. I’m going to be playing Diablo 3 on day one, and enjoying every minute of it.
I’m totally won’t be surprised if Battle.Net is full of people who bought the game, logged on, and promptly proceeded to fill up the chat window with a multitude of complaints.
(By the way, I’m totally half-kidding about Halo. I’m a total Master Chief fanboy.)
