Confused, befuddled, curious… any of these would describe my feelings after reading through a recent top 10 list. And know, it’s not another one of those infuriating top 10 best games of the year lists. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. Wired recently listed its 10 Most Disappointing Games of 2008 and I have to say, some of them are head scratchers. Take a look:
10. Age of Conan
9. Tom Clancy’s EndWar
8. Too Human
7. Stalker: Clear Sky
6. Mirror’s Edge
5. Dead Space
4. Prince of Persia
3. Mario Kart Wii
2. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
1. Spore
While I agree with the top few, having numbers 4-6 on the list at all are kind of puzzling, to say the least. What do you guys think?

I agree with spore all the way, but wtf!? Mirror’s edge, Prince of Persia, Mario kart wii!? I wonder someone paid wired to make a list like this.:/
Dead Space and Prince of Persia? Are the smoking something?
9,8,7,4,2 and 1 i can understand, but Endwar? Mirrors edge? jeeez
Mario Kart Wii was a disappointment for me. I was expecting the glory of the N64 version updated with a snazzy motion control system, but what I got was an annoying, unnecessary long game.
Endwar is kinda disappointing. It’s very standard RTS, just with voice commands.
I am playing Prince of Persia right now and I think its a little disappointing. Still a great game, but I liked the PS2 version better. A review will come this week.
Prince of Persia? Why do you have to taint the only game on my Christmas, list, Wired? I knew you were going downhill when you put Sarah Silverman on the cover.
It’s wierd, half the list is accurate, and the other half is puzzling. I guess “5 Most Dissapointing Games” doesn’t have the same punch. Dead Space, really?
Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I have been blown away by what I’ve seen by Dead Space. I’m really surprised to see it up there.
I’m not qualified to speak to any of them except Dead Space, but if its presence is any indication, this list is seriously skewed. Whack-a-mole combat? I guess maybe he’s playing on easy? Maybe it’s just me, but when I get mobbed by a horde of various ex-human monstrosities, run out of ammo, and have to start frantically fishing through the piled bodies by telekinesis for sharp pieces of limb to fire off at the remnant still lurching their way toward me, that’s got epic written all over it.
I just read the post in depth; I think that his main complaint with Dead Space was that it got repetitive fairly fast. Makes sense, but I’d hardly say that that makes it “dissapointing”. While I don’t think a game should be forgiven it’s faults for having some reedeming qualities, the overall design of Dead Space far outweighs it’s few niggling deficiencies.
I read the part about Star Wars, and when he got to the Star Destroyer, my ire actually went up. I HATED that part. I almost twisted my controller in half, lol.
He got one thing right: Civilization Revolution was better than Endwar.
