It’s kind of a given that in terms of AAA titles, Microsoft has really set the bar high over the last couple of years. From games like Mass Effect, Gears of War, Halo, and even some great XBLA titles like Castle Crashers or Braid, the 360 set itself up as a gaming machine with some unique content. Will 2009 continue the trend?
Gamasutra compiled a list of the most-awaited games of 2009 for Xbox 360, and the answer might be a sad, resounding “no”.
A quick perusal of the list reveals just a few exclusives, and two of those are Halo spin-offs (ODST and Halo Wars). The only game I can say I’m really looking forward to that is exclusive would have to be Star Ocean: The Last Hope which looks like a proper honest-to-goodness JRPG. So what about you guys? Excited about any of these games?

The exclusives look pretty boring. I’ll still play all multi-console games on the 360 (because of the controller and achievements), but as far as exclusives go the PS3 seems to be the system of choice in ’09.
Yeah I’ll probably play all of the multi-console games on the 360 for the same reasons except for FF XIII. Playing that on anything besides that PS3 will just feel… wrong, somehow. Like nature perverted.
Eddy, you are right about that. You guys prefer the 360 controller?
Man, I love my PS3 one, although I will admit the 360 is better than the original xbox controller. Hated that one.
I just am not a fan of the PS3 controller. It’s a tad too small and feels like a cheap toy to me. Granted, I haven’t bought a DS3 controller yet, and I hear those play much better.
I have one and its pretty good. I just prefer the button layout.
Halo wars looks fun, except for the fact that it’s an RTS on a console. It’d make a nice PC release, though, especially since it’s made by Ensemble.

ding! ding! ding! We have a winner. I don’t think I can do an RTS without a keyboard/mouse.
It’s a fun idea, but I think you guys are right.
Plus, the people who just like Halo for shooting things aren’t going to like this at all.
One guy once saw a commercial for Final Fantasy VII and returned the game within a week because he didn’t want to have to read to play it.
So this is be a success, maybe, but nowhere near what MS wants it to be.
Wow things really look grim for the 360 don’t they. Is it possible that Microsoft has some ace up their sleeve? I hope so
Ech. I think I threw up a bit there.
Man, that is a sad list, to be sure. I mean, Resident Evil 5 is on it, and that does have co-op, so…
Wow, looks like ’09 may be a relatively slow year all around. Should be a good year to get caught up older releases and maybe replay some classics.
It may be a slow year, but like benign said, it gives some time to catch up on this year’s releases and more importantly, at least for me, gives the wallet time to catch up on cash for all those games.

I’ll agree there. The 360 pad (to me) is quite awkward and heavy whereas the SIXAXIS is as light as a feather and doesn’t have vibration! I missed it when I first got the PS3, but now? I tried the DS3 on COD5: Heavy and shook all over the place every shot. ANNOYING AS HELL!
Well, to tell you the truth, most of last years best games were announced at GDC, E3, PAX, and TGS. None of those have come yet. So really, you can’t judge because Microsoft is holding their cards close and Sony has them all of the table. Wait until after those events, and then we will talk.

Wait…who is to say that Sony has them all on the table? They might be holding stuff back, as well.
I think why we are saying this is that Microsoft blew their wad on all their established franchises in 2008. Unless they have amazing new IPs on the way, there isn’t much else for them to show off.

True, the PC is the winner anytime.
Remember Eddy, we didn’t find out about Gears 2 until Feb. 08. 360s year is not quite anounced yet. Plus the majority of 3rd party titles are played on the 360. So u got COD: MW2 and BioShock 2. True its on PS3, but they still lag behind on sales in 3rd party, I don’t know why PS3 fans arn’t playing COD and Bioshock as much as 360 and PC users though. Anthony, some advice?
I don’t know guys…some of that stuff sounds kinda good. I will admit that I didn’t see anything that made my jaw drop, but a few look playable. I’m really looking forward to the GTA IV download. I might even get Star Ocean and FF XIII, and I haven’t played games like those in awhile. I’m really glad you guys brought this up though, I was just thinking the other day about how the 360 was a sleeper this year.
Well, there were some stats on COD4 today…something like 7 million people play it on the 360 and 4 million on the PS3…thats not too bad considering the difference in console base.
I played the hell out of both of them. For the people that have 2 systems, they probably pick whichever one they like better when it comes to 3rd party games.
