There’s a rumor flying around that Resident Evil 5 clocks in at about 7 1/2 hours total running time. While there are different claims about how long the game actually is, this is what XBox World 360 is claiming about their experience with the upcoming Capcom blockbuster.
We don’t know what is actually true here, but if the game is indeed that short, I find it to be a bit disturbing. I mean, the last Resident Evil title dropped all the way back in 2005, which is a whopping 4 years ago. So basically, it took Capcom that long to produce an experience that amounts to under 8 hours of gameplay? Sure there’s co-operative play, but in my mind, you have to have some more material there to justify asking $60 for a game.
But hey, maybe I’m wrong. If this is actually true (and there is reason to believe it’s not), would you guys find this fair, or foul? Go!

It depends on how good those 8 hours are. If it’s a great game then it’s not so bad, I’ll most likely replay it a few times.
I did read in the Official Playstation Magazine that there is no downtime, the game is all action and they finished the entire thing.
And since the guy at Xbox 360 World is claiming that everyone else got a 3 level build and only THEY got the whole thing…someone is lying.
Also, in OPM, they said the game showed they completed 23% on their first run through. Sounds like there is a lot of game to be played, but who knows?
If it is less than 8 hours long, it would definitely be disappointing. But unfortunately, that is what the current game market has come to, short games for high dollars. I think we had a discussion about that on here a while ago.
Best to wait for the game to actually come out to make a call, but 8 hours would be incredibly short, especially for a game where you have to stop moving to shoot. Still, if it’s technically impressive then we can probably expect games using the same engine to emerge. But hopefully this is just a rumor – I know I’d expect more for $60.
I’m expecting that fans will go back to playing RE4 because RE5 disappoints them so much. This rumor may or may not be true, but I bet RE5 will still have enough nagging problems that will keep it from being a truly awesome game.
