So this weekend, I played me a ton of Resident Evil 5. The co-op mode in particular is such a blast to play, especially the farther you progress. The game really does get more action-oriented the longer you play, which is wild considering that when it starts, you’re conserving your ammo like a mad man and trying to find loot under every rock and barrel you come across. It’s not long before you’re hording ridiculously power up-ed weapons and slaughtering the masses of infected zombie-people.
The thing that shocks me the most about this game is that I’m actually loving it. For a game that I wasn’t excited about in the slightest to just come along and grab me so really is a testament I think to just how fun it is to play. I know I made several posts about the game’s controls (which I still believe you should be able to run in the damn thing), but all in all, it really has surprised me with its awesomeness.
What was the last game that you thought that was going to be lame, but turned out to be totally awesome? Go!
Sadly, mine would have to be Knights of the Old Republic. I watched my cousin play it (this was back when I had a GameCube; the X Box was but a distant fantasy for me), and it looked like a total snore fest.
“My name is Trask Ulgo, I’m an Ensign…zzzzzzz.”
When I finally got an X Box, I borrowed it because hey, it’s Star Wars. I put it in, expecting to be totally bored, and I was, right up until Dantooine. Then shit got real. I love that game, and I enjoyed the sequel a lot more, even though Knights 2 starts with a opening that makes a library look like a dance club.
On the subject of RE5, I would really quickly like to say: RELOAD WHILE MOVING, PLEASE K THNX. Man, that annoys the hell out of me.
You’re never going to believe this, but when I first heard of Left 4 Dead, I thought it would suck. It seemed like it was trying to be like traditional zombie games and be different all at once, and I had never really liked zombie games, so I just didn’t think that I would like it much. The only reason I even gave it a try was because it was made by Valve. I was completely wrong, of course, and I loved it.
Believe it or not, I didn’t have high hopes for Fallout 3. I know! I know! It’s brilliant, but me and my friend (both avid Oblivion fans) didn’t like the look of it for quite a while. It wasn’t until we watched the trailer from the PSN Store that we realised how good it might actually be! The likeness to Oblivion, the humour, the unique setting and universe and, of course, the Fat Man! I’ve just started getting back into it (damn Killzone 2) and I’m delighted to have hacked 44 terminals. That platinum trophy WILL be mine!
There is one game in particular that I thought I would never play… Oblivion. I was never into the Swords an Magic stuff, just didn’t appeal to me. Then one day I rented it, thinking “Hey easy achievements” then I fell in love with the game. The freedom to do whatever you want, you never even have to do the main story line, NEVER. The world is yours to explore and play.
Another game I never thought I would be playing is The Sims.
Saints Row 2. GTA rip-off, right?
Wrong. More fun by a long shot!
Resident 5 was a blast for me. The only thing was, I played coop with my friend who beat RE4 like 18 times and nothing lived up to his expectations. I muted him frequently. Theres one part to the end that really upset me in RE5 but I dont want to spoil.
The recent games I played that I thought would be bad have to be Army of Two, Battlefield Bad Company, and Frontlines: Fuel of War… but thats just me taking a glance at my collection and choosing the first 3 I saw. The exact opposite for the question would have to be LOTR Conquest for me, campaign was decent but online feels like homework
Forza Motorsport 2. I thought, racing, great. But it really was! I got that with my 360, and until I went to Besy Buy to get GRAW 2 that was all I played for a solid 2 weeks.
Resident evil 5, although i still wish it had zombies in it
I had the same feeling about Resident Evil 5. I thought that it would suck and their movement and shooting controls would be clunky. I had a chance to play it during Spring break when my little brothers rented RE5 from Blockbuster and I was very impressed of how fun it is. I was close to finishing the game but I had to return RE5 to Blockbuster and had to go back to college. 🙁 Anyways, RE5 is awesome after I gave it a shot.
Just want to point out that I defended RE5 all throughout the hate. Know why I was right? cause I played the hell out of RE4 and that was one of the best games ever. Even if RE5 brought nothing new, it would still be a blast.
Glad you guys kept an open mind.
Well personally, I had low expectations for Call of Duty 4. I mean, I was always a big MOH fan, and I was never really into COD, but once I got a hold of it, wow, I was impressed. Another game I thought would totally suck monkey eggs was EVE Online. Now, while it’s maybe not the same as any other game that I’ve ever seen and isn’t comparable to a lot, it just seemed like a hassle of a game: spaceships, mining, missions, kinda weird stuff. But once I played it and got to know the story (and also the whole BoB-GoonSwarm fiasco back in Feb), I decided to give it a shot, and was totally hooked.
On the flip side though, I thought Infinite Undiscovery was going to be amazing, and it was, for about 2 hours, then it just got repetitive and the (constant, long, annoying, incredibly unnecessary) cutscenes made me almost put a gun into my mouth.
Speaking of Infinite Undiscovery though, I need a new RPG. A good one. One that can last me at LEAST 10 hours. Don’t suggest Fallout 3 or Fable II, because I’m already considering those. Maybe something along the lines of Final Fantasy or something like that kind of a game. Help is appreciated! Thanks!
I thought Fallout 3 was not my cup of tea, but then I tried it. nuff said

THANK YOU. IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS!!!!!!!
Hm. well FarCry didnt impress me at all, i got bored twice and unsinstalled… So FarCry 2 I was expecting just a choppy Crysis rip-off in africa… But man its turning out to be Really fun, and runs very smoothly (everything maxed [no aa] 40 – 60fps) Just when i thought “What a small map” i made it to Act II where it TOTALY changes muhaha. Getting addicted since I accidently ruined my Fallout 3 game.
At first I thought Fallout 3 wasn’t my thing since it’s similar to Oblivion which I more-or-less hate. But Fallout 3 rocks my socks off.
Also, Call of Duty 4. I hated Call of Duty 1 and 2 so I thought I’d hate CoD4, too. But it’s multiplayer mode is one of the best I’ve ever played.
Up next: Lost Planet
Dunno why I thought this game would suck. But it rocks. I love it. Can’t wait for the sequel.
That’s it for now. 🙂 Thanks for reading ‘n stuff.
I never really saw much in the guitar hero series when I was watching it. it seemed repetitive and boring. now that I have it I love the game and I’m now trying to get a drumset.
Definitely RE 4 and 5.
I was worried that when it turned to more of an action game than survival horror it would, well suck.
RE 4 turned out to be great regardless and the demo I played of RE 5 was amazing.
I just have one question left, where’s Barry? Or at least give me his .357.
