Now this is something you don’t see everyday. As games’ technology gets more and more advanced, it seems that many developers are turning to in-game cinematics rather than the CG artistry of old. Heck, even MGS4’s cut scenes were filmed with a real time camera tool. It’s pretty cool then, to see Blizzard using this machinima trailer to promote its next part of the Wrath of the Lich King, Secrets of Ulduar. The animation is slick and the visuals rock, to boot. Great stuff.

Very nice. Blizzard has been improving on WoW a lot with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, which features a few more in-game cinematics than just this one.
I watched my WoW playing friend tackle the opening battle of Ulduar last night, and I gotta say, it was pretty sweet. Blizz is doing some interesting things with scale in the new expansion, and it really shows. The battle was basically a fight between iron golems and Alliance tanks in a huge hall. My buddy zipped around on a motor bike and cast oil slicks everywhere. It took them three tries, but it looked fun.
Yeah, I think the first machinima they made in-game was the one for patch 2.4 (Sunwell raid), which was nice, except thatthey kind of threw crap around everywhere and it was pretty obvious. (Zombie in a tree, etc.)
But since Wrath launched, they’ve been getting progressively better. The best one in my opinion is the Wrathgate cutscene which is the culmination of a very long quest chain (Theres story spoilers in it, but I don’t think anyone cares.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrMa_sU1Nnk
Wooah, thats pretty amazing.
Its still CGI you know… just not as “beautiful” as you’re used to.
Still, its looking amazing as ever.
Nice voice actors to.
WoTLK has set new standards for WoW. They have outdone themselves constantly with the release of new content and Machinima’s. The game only gets better and better…
