As many of you know, Battlefield 1943 released yesterday over PSN and XBox Live. While the game launched with some issues (namely, server capacities), those issues are being dealt with and the game is slowly but surely becoming playable again.
After some difficulty joining a server, I finally was able to land inside, and I have to say, I had a blast. It really is good to be playing Battlefield again, especially in the WWII setting, with bombers, aircraft carriers, boats and jeeps all at your disposal. The game works with squads and squad spawns, which was such brilliant addition to the series with BF 2. So, if you’ve got either a PS3 or XBox 360, this game is a ton of fun and a definite steal at only $15 for the whole deal.
So, who’s gotten to play this game yet? What did you think?
This game is GREAT. Just played few hours of it and I got to say, I feel sorry for the guys who developed and published this because I feel like we are getting more for just 15 bucks. I think they could have just sold this at retail price and no one would care.
I loved 1942 so much, so seeing it remade with the frostbyte engine gave me an omgasm. I’ll hold out for a PC version, though. Dedicated servers FTW.
The X Box and PS versions have dedicated servers as well (just like Bad Company) but apparently they don’t have enough. EA didn’t count on a BF game being immensely popular, apparently.
Yes, I got it, and yes, I love it. I’ve been getting games pretty consistently, too. Definitely a lot of fun.
I’m getting the trial of 1943, I was getting it yesterday but I got Warhawk 1st so I’m DLing BF when playing Dead Space.
I love it. The planes are great fun but so are all vehicles. Everything is balanced out well. The AA guns to counter the planes really help balance that out. Only 3 maps (soon to be 4 though) but those 3 maps are fantastic. All and all it is a great bargian and a great game.
I’m looking forward to Coral Sea because 12 v 12 with everyone in planes will be brilliant. First Battlefield game i’ve played (excluding the BC Demo) and I wish I had played the series earlier.
Oh and i’m now looking forward to Bad Company 2 more than CoD 6
I played the demo last night and while it is fun, as the end of the day, I would rather play Call of Duty 4.
I think I am ruined for any FPS ever again.

Spoken like a man that has never experienced the fun of PC gaming. 🙂
BF 1942 was some of the best multiplayer that PC gaming had to offer. Also, I think experiencing squad gameplay with friends is something that is completely unmatched in other FPS games. Setting your squad as your spawn point is such a brilliant mechanic when the maps are so huge.

EPIC PHAIL!
Lol, my dad had Battlefield 1942, its actually the only PC shooter online I ever played. And I liked it quite a bit, but once I got sick of it, I was done with it.
Killzone 2 also has squad spawn points.
But I just prefer Call of Duty at this point. 15 bucks is not a lot, but since I have a shooter I already prefer, it seems like a waste of money for my situation.
O noz! I phailed.
Also, Killzone 2 is blah, so it’s squad points don’t redeem it. But yes, Call of Duty is an admirable game to play instead of this one. But I’d definitely say if you haven’t experienced squad combat with friends then you haven’t experienced the full measure of the game yet.
Also, a big draw is the vehicle stuff, which you very rarely see done so well in other shooters. I still suck at flying planes, though 🙁
Oh I would enjoy squads with friends, but only 3 people I know have PS3s and not all of them game online on it…EDDY
I got it and loved it, especially do to the lack of MP games lately. And a steal at $15.
I love flying the planes in 1943, actually. In the PC Battlefields, I use the mouse to guide the plane and that really sucks, especially during dog-fighting.
Using the right stick to steer the plane takes a bit of getting used to, but it flows pretty well once you use it a bit. (The tutorial helps as well. Yeah, I played it, big whoop, wanna fight about it?)
I can’t wait to get to play it. I’m one of those that doesn’t own a 360 or PS3 and to my surprise this game wasn’t released on the PC at the same time as everyone else. I’m assuming it was because the PC users got Battlefield Heroes, which is a good game, but 1943 looks like it’ll take the gold medal. Regardless I’m really anxious to play it because i’ve logged more hours in Battlefield 1942 than any game i’ve ever played. I was surprised the first Call of Duty didn’t surpass that because I got addicted but 1942 was a one of a kind video game. I can’t wait to get my hands on 1943…especially the planes again. The planes of Battlefield 2 were too much for me.
So far I’m enjoying it quite a bit, however it seems all my teammates are pretty sunk in to the CoD4 “KEEL KEEL KEEL, wait, what’s a(n) objective/control point?” mentality. Really the game is about capping and defending those points, with the fighting of enemies being the 2nd objective. Most people I play with don’t seem to understand this (Not trying to sound snooty, mind you).
Favorite map so far has to be Iwo Jima (Gotta love that lighthouse), Wake Island just takes too long to navigate on, and Canal is meh, solely because of the fact it can just degenerate into a death match over the one point on the hill. Not too much wrong with that, though.
The unlimited and regenerating ammo, and regenerating health is a nice touch, keeping the flow of game play going. Unlike in Bad Company where you had to run away when you lost health (Unless you had the Auto Injector, an item I would have traded ANY of the other class specific items for in the other classes). This bogged down the game play (and made me rage uncontrollably) so I was glad to see it “Tweaked” in 1943.
Nonetheless, as my total 9 hours clocked since buying it yesterday will show, I have to agree that it’s a total blast. Well worth the 15 bucks.
Oh, and quick question. Does anyone know why sometimes you get graphic bugs in the game? For example: I get this weird black square on my screen when I look towards players.
Battlefield ’43 is awesome! For just $15 E-Bucks, you get a small but robust and simply fun multiplayer game with a ton of replay value. I DL’d it today to celebrate moving into my apartment and getting the interwebz kaybullz hooked up, and me and my bros have been pwning fools in ’43. My favorite class is easily the Rifleman since the M1 Garand and Type 5 semi-auto rifles are accurate, powerful, and fast to reload. Plus, I have a sick trigger finger, so you Assault noobs got nothing on this! lol Also, planes are a bit hard to control, but are a lot of fun to Kamikaze with.
So, if you’re a fan of BF, GET ’43!
