GamerSushi Asks: Portable Classics?

ff7I’m flying to Florida this weekend for some much needed vacation, and if there’s one thing I’m not looking forward to its the flight. Being a rather big dude makes flying a completely uncomfortable affair, not to mention that I hate the way flying makes me feel. The one thing that makes the experience more bearable is portable gaming of some kind, be it the PSP or Nintendo DS.

One thing that got me really excited this week was the realization that I could download any number of PS1 classics onto my PS3 and then transfer them over to the PSP. I could play Suikoden, Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid. The cooler part? I can even copy those save files back onto the PS3 when I get back, and continue the games I started there. This makes me happy.

The idea of playing FF7 and MGS in particular is what really has me stoked, mainly because they are two of my favorite games. This got me thinking. If you guys had a chance to have a handheld and portable version of any of your old school favorite games, what would it be and why? Go!

  1. Crash bandictoot 1 or 3 because i just loved em, thought they were great and all round enjoyed them. I would also take either MGS because it’s awesome or tekken 3 because that is also awesome.

  2. Already have it. Final Fantasy VI.

Oh, wait…I lent that to you, Eddy. WHY HAVEN’T YOU PLAYED IT??????

lol, I also would like the original FF tactics, but I don’t have a PSP.

  3. 70 hours into FF7 on my PSP and I’m beginning to wonder why I’m STILL on th first disc. Am I that slow? On PSP I’d like MGS1 as it’s not out in the European store yet and it’s been a while since I played it.

Are you serious? You should be done with the game by then!

Wait…first disc? But you are playing on the PSP…

  5. If I could get the Spider-Man game that was released for the PSone and the N64, that would make my day. That game was total fan service, and it had the greatest collection of unlockable costumes ever.

The did a portable version of Mario64 with up-rezed graphics, so I don’t think that a portable Ocarina or Majora’s Mask would be out of the question. I would totally rock out MM on my DS.

  6. Anthony,on the PS3/P you have to go to the home button and choose to switch. I know I’m taking ages, but I’m not used to RPGs. That said, I cleared FFX in 80-90hours. I’m wondering why in God’s name I’m so slow!

  7. A handheld Fallout would be awesome. Yeah, Fallout 4 should have a competent handheld version. Which I might not get, because I’d go for the console version. Um, but choices ftw…?

  8. Half-Life, easily. It’d escalate to unheard of levels if it supported mods, as well…

  9. You should play MGS1 on the way down. You can amplify your relaxation by breaking your thumb during the torture scene, y’know? =D

  10. I still don’t know why Nintendo doesn’t have Super Mario bras for the DSi ware, and where the heck are the other retro games that you only need 3 kinds of buttons to play with!?

Well anyway, I don’t think classic fps for portables isn’t that good of an idea. It’s hard enough to play fps on consoles with that lil joystick.
But if there is an alternative to that, I would choose, Portal…

    …Hell, yeah.

Cause they have it on the Virtual Console!

  12. Yeah, but thats that.
I wonder if they are going to let you take the Virtual Console on your DSi using the SD card in the future?

If nintendo did that, that would be epic.

Also, side note, they need to get all classic gameboy/gameboy color games into their own store also.

Uh…no. No it’s not. (sorry, I still don’t know how to do that quote thingamajigger)

  15. Cod 1, Command and Conquer, UT, and the Freespace series, seeing how they are awesome, even though they are mainly on PC, but having them on a handheld would be nice…. fun blowing heads off on my DS…. And to me they are classics seeing how I’m 13 and am being assimilated into halo, cod, and ‘ugh’ gears of war 2 (boring!).
