It’s time for our monthly “what are you playing” quiz, so you all know what that means.
Right now, I’ve been working my way through a couple of games: Batman: Arkham Asylum and Shadow Complex. The interesting thing about those is not only are they two of the better games I’ve played all year, they are actually very similar in style. I know there was a big discussion about the cliche term “Metroid-vania” (or Castleroid if you’re feeling saucy), and these two titles definitely fit the bill.
They both function in the same way, letting you explore a large complex, gaining access to it more over time as you learn new abilities or find new weaponry. It’s actually very interesting to see the juxtaposition between them, as one is 3D and one 2D, and both equally as enjoyable.
So, have either of you guys gotten try these out yet? And what are you playing as of this weekend?
This month i’m continuing my trek trough the barren wastelands of D.C. Why is fallout three so addictive? Ive also started up Shadow Complex, mostly because of Mitch’s great review, and its proving to be a great investment.
Well,I just downloaded SC:Chaos Theory to my 360, so I’ve been playing that, some UT2004, and some CS:S.
I’ve been wanting to try out Batman, but haven’t gotten the chance yet.

I can’t help but feel that that’s a jab at me. I swear, I hadn’t heard of the original term!
Ahem. I’m currently finishing up Tales of Vesperia, and once I find the last item of the Collector’s Book, i’m officially 100% done with it. Totally completed. Also playing Rock Band 2, soon to go through the Endless Setlist 2 on Expert. Lastly, more hot TF2 action. Can’t go wrong with that. =)
Ha, I just had to after that discussion. The whole thing was hilarious. How is Tales of Vesperia? I’ve been tempted by that one.
And grandpennywise, SC:Chaos Theory is an incredible choice. One of my faves of last generation, and probably my favorite stealth game of all time.

While I’d love to take credit for that, I think that was JJ. 😉
I’ve finished Arkham on PS3, and I’m doing it on 360 now. Very enjoyable game.
Still playing WaW. I’ve gone back to multiplayer, and I’m tearing up the three new maps, especially Revolution, in Hardcore TDM and S&D, using Springfield with Bayonet and Double Tap, among other perks. Good stuff.

Yeah, I suppose I had that one coming. It was pretty funny, especially the thought of castle-sized steroids. (by the way, I lol’d at the pic.)
To be honest, I don’t like Tales of Vesperia as much as I liked Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube, but I still find it a great game. Even if the storyline (it’s lacking, in my opinion, but the characters help that along) doesn’t keep you playing, the battle system will. I love the Tales series’ battle systems, they’re great fun. The demo on Marketplace is NOT a good representation of the game, however, so i’d suggest you rent it to see how it is before deciding, if at all, to buy it.
Well, I’m a couple of years late to the party and I’ve finally got Bioshock. Amazing game, and even though I read a spoiler here about the “Would you kindly…” it still had enough great plot twists to keep me hooked. I may get Arkham Asylum at some point, but school starts on Tuesday so it’s not feasible right now.
Saints Row 2! I’m just starting to realize how flat-out ridiculous that game is. I’ll probably never again have the chance to turn to my friend and say, ‘my ninjas are beating up that pimp’. Good times.
This weekend i finished up batman and i got my hands on bioshock finally (yea i know sad)
Currently playing Dead Space, which I like, even though playing handy man to the ship might get old later. What? The toilet’s are clogged in Sickbay? Better get down there…
Also, messing around with the Last Guy, LOVED FREAKING LOVED the demo for Wet.
getting in some Dragon Quest V whenever I can, also.
Well, I gave The Orange Box back to my friend so now I’m trying to beat CoD4: MW on Veteran. Two levels left. No Fighting in the War Room and Mile High Club. CURSE YOU TIME LIMITS!
@ Temp10k, I’m late to Bioshock aswell : P what was wrong with us?
Also Anthony do you really like Wet too? The demo had plenty of action, and QTEs are always winners for me and the music was GREAT. None of my friends liked it.

Yeah, it was fun! Clearly a reaction to all the ultra realistuc games out there, it is just straight up cool action.
That’s what I thought Anthony! Nice sword-play and slo-mo gun-play. It makes me think of Quintin Tarintino in more ways than “swords + OTT = Kill Bill’s game that never was.” The character animation is woefull though 🙁 the wall climbs look stupid.
Still playing Fallout 3, current playtime at around 190 hours over 3 characters. I got Mothership Zeta DLC too but I am saving it for when I am a higher level and for when I move house and have to entertain myself without the internet :p
Also started my fourth save game on LoZ Twilight Princess (although I have only completed it once thanks to various file corruptions and power cut rage quitting) current playtime at 200 ish hours over 4 characters.
Also just today finished my marathon of Tell Tale Games…games, played all the Sam and Max’s and all the SBCGFAP. Thinking about getting the tales of monkey island game/s.
I also just found out why my social life is failing.
I’m playing those exact two games as well. But I just got full gamerscore for both Batman and Shadow Complex. Damn combo achievements, lol. XBL HyperZippy
skuba and tremp, im another one that only just got bioshock, bought it in a twin pack with oblivion. so thats 2 great games that ive finally caught up to the rest of the world with. only just started them but they both look amazing
Currently playing STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl just messin around havin fun though. Also playin Arma 2 for pc its a great game and has an awesome mission editor that totally makes the game worth it.
-BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger *PS3*
(totally addicted..!)
-Kill.Switch *PS2*
-Call of Duty: WaW *PS3*
(Nazi Zombies!)
-Diablo *PC*
(Yes the original; busting out LAN during open periods in school w/ friends)
I’m currently looking to purchase a copy of PSone Diablo and N64’s Perfect Dark. I heard some epic stories about PD and I’ve been inspired to buy it.
I actually just downloaded America’s Army 3 on STEAM and its a really nice change of pace from CoD4/CS (my only other 2 games I play online).
I’ve reinstalled Bioshock for the 3rd time; but I just CAN’T get into it.. I don’t know what it is, when someone asks me, I say I LOVE Bioshock because I’m in love with the story and the graphics and the ideas… but I just can’t seem to get into the game itself.
Anyone wanna just Fraps the entire game so I can watch someone play through XD…
@Bacon4thetakin: I was at first going to say you could wait for Perfect Dark to be released on Xbox Live Arcade since it is in the process of being ported, but checking out your list I have the feeling you don’t own an Xbox. In that case, go for the N64 copy. I believe it’s worth it, especially if you have a buddy to play with who doesn’t mind the N64 controller. (I sure don’t)
