Ready to Get Brütal?

Are you prepared for Rocktober, the most heavy metal month of the year? If you are, brace yourselves for the opening six minutes of the Jack Black-starring, Tim Schafer-produced Brütal Legend, a journey through the most raging of fantasy worlds! No doubt you’ve already heard about some of the voice stars in this game-which includes Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Kilmister and Tim Curry-and you’ve probably heard about the various legal troubles that the game has had, what with Activision being a vicious font of evil and all that. Anyways, check out the video, which feature some awful “music”, surprisingly sober voice acting by Black, and a giant monster that reminds me of Mannoroth from Warcraft III.

So, who’s picking this up? October’s a packed month as far as releases go, but I’m making room for a little Brütal Legend on my calendar.

  1. When I read the “awful music” part, I assumed you just didn’t like metal, but when I watched that…I understood what you meant. Ouch.

I liked those swear/gore filter boxes, they were amusing.

  2. I thought the same thing Sinister. This looks like it has potential. Not only because Jack Black is awesome (tenaciousD !) but also beacuse, duh, Metal is involved.

  3. I’m quite interested in this. I absolutely loved Tim Schafer’s response to the lawsuit:
“Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it,” Schafer said. “Oh great, now Beyoncé is going to sue me too.”
    Pure fucking epic!

  4. As someone who has seen even MTV2 and FUSE slip into a slightly harder stage, which has promptly been denied by the influx of tween music and tween style (I blame you, Disney) I can purely relate with Eddy. Also, that beginning was hilarious.

    Hilariously sad, I must edit.

Wow, that was some kind of terrible. Why is mixing pop-punk vocals with screamo suddenly prevalent in music?

I thought that the ridiculous head-banging was funny, though. It’s like someone gave them a five-minute crash course on how to be metal. “OK, spread your legs really far, put the guitar against your crotch and bang your head! Metal!”

  7. I mainly dislike the breakdowns every 30 seconds, and everything about the song. But with todays music you just take something from before and add some other thing from another genre to make ____-core genre.

But about the game I looked it up and it seems just to be a hack n slash game, even though its funny, doesn’t seem to be worth the money.
