Woah. So Uncharted 2 is one incredible game. If you have been on the fence about getting a Playstation 3 (or a PS triple, as some would say), you no longer have any excuses. Go out and get this game right now. I’m being serious. There will be punches if you ignore me on this.
Now that that’s out of the way, on to what I was really trying to say. This morning I finally finished this fantastic game, and I found myself sad to see it over. Most of the time when I beat a game, I usually find myself excited about my accomplishment, being able to move on to something else. It’s only with movies and books that I get sad during an ending. Which really says a lot to me about the quality of Uncharted 2’s storytelling. In fact, I was so engrossed throughout the whole game that it was often hard to put the controller down. On nights that I needed to go to bed earlier, I would purposely avoid the game because I knew once it was one, it was go time.
Honestly, I can’t really remember the last time that a game struck me with that same sense of “holy crap I can’t put this down”. For a single player game, it’s certainly been awhile. What about you guys? When was the last time you suffered from “can’t put the controller down” syndrome?
Last time for me was probably Mass Effect, I just wanted to keep playing just so I could get to the epic conclusion.
Seeing as I play on a PC (the main reason being mouse and keyboard is easier), I never really suffered from this “can’t put the controller down syndrome”. However, the first game I could stop playing was Morrowind. Then it was Oblivion. Then Fallout 3. I don’t know what Bethesda does, but the days and nights are shorter when I’m playing one of their games than when I play other games.
Grand Theft Auto IV has to be the worst one for me. There’s just so much to do with it.
My friend and I actually made a few videos out of it at one time, which were great.
The greats of course.
Deus Ex was one of the first games I ever played on PC in the first place.. and I’ve probably played through that game 10 to 15 times. Can’t ever stop… *starts reinstalling*
Half-Life 2. Another game I have reinstalled and played through many many times. Can’t ever seem to find that “I’ve done everything and every possible fire-fight/awesome sequence”. Never gets old
Fallout 3 is definitely the newest one, and I am STILL playing through it. With that map-revealing perk @ level 20, I’ve just been spending all my time visiting every possible location in the game with so much enjoyment it’s incredible.
Deus Ex wins for Story
Half-Life 2 wins for innovation
Fallout 3 wins for endless fun.
The only other game I was really “sad” at the end was MGS and MGSII. Such amazing story AND gameplay is hard to find in single experiences.
The last time I experienced it was last week playing Uncharted 2! Before that, though it would have been… *checks games* RE5 believe it or not. I’m off school this week so I’m hoping to invest a bit of time in Bioshock again. The 1st run was fantastic and for the most part left me with the same reaction as Uncharted 2 and RE5 (ie. HOLY SHIT THIS IS FUN!). On my next run I’m going to be a real asshole and harvest all! > : D
I think Mass Effect was the last time I got it real bad. The story was so phenomenal and unlike anything I had ever seen in a game before, I had fight to get away from it. To this day I’ve beaten it 4 separate times.
Oh geez. Fallout 3 ruined my social life on LIVE, so yeah; Bethesda is an evil corporation of tiny people that cast spells on their games to make the players never want to put it down. Whatever, I’m not complaining. The vast environment, gripping story, and smooth gameplay all came together to make an experience that I just had to keep playing day and night.
The last game was probably Fallout 3, but I’ve recently bought a new MMO called “Fallen Earth”. I can’t stop playing. It’s an RPG with FPS elements, such a first person gameplay
Dang it Eddy, it’s been too long since I played something well-crafted enough to give me that feeling…maybe since Mass Effect, and even that’s a bit of a stretch. So does this mean you’re offering up your couch when my wife kicks me out for buying a PS3? 😉 At least I’m finally about to throw in Fallout 3, which should distract me at least until Dragon Age and Modern Warfare 2 absorb me for a good while.
Funny this subject should come up now. I’ve been glued to Oblivion every waking moment that i’ve been home. The last two nights of stayed up late playing. It’s running on my tv right now. I just can’t get enough. This is starting to turn into a new halo 2 for me.
I have put 70 hours into Fallout 3 and I STILL AIN’T DONE YET!
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune came with my PS3 and I fell in love with that game… needless to say I pretty much locked myself in my room when Uncharted 2 came out, I was surprised on how fun the multiplayer can be too
In the last couple months the most time I put into a game is probably Halo 3, I dont get on thinking Ill spend more then an hour but when you get room full of people for Custom Games its hard to bring yourself to get off… especially with all the user content
I’ve had a few that really got me. First was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I was determined to win. Then came Twilight Princess on the second run of it, not sure why. More recently, though, BioShock wouldn’t let me put it down, and surprisingly Farcry 2, even though it kinda sucked. I really really really wanted to beat it to see the ending, which I won’t spoil but it was a little disappointing for the number of hours I put into it.
Now I have to deal with Fallout 3 on top of school and what could be a social life. Fallout 3 is winning. I’m a Tunnel Snake for Halloween. That’s how much this game is affecting me.
