Oh yeah!
With all the new games coming out every year, it becomes tricky to negotiate which games you should/shouldn’t buy. Already this Fall, I’ve bought a game I didn’t expect to (Halo: ODST) and I’ve been tempted by two other titles I didn’t have any plans on buying (Forza 3 and Borderlands). However, there is inevitably the game that everyone else seems to love, but you don’t necessarily drink the kool-aid for the way others do.
For me, that might be Left 4 Dead 2 this year. In previous years, games like Bioshock and any of the Devil May Cry games have failed to catch my fancy. Same thing with Mario Galaxies. Also, and this one might get me yelled at- Ocarina of Time. Though others loved them, I just never caught the fever. What about you guys? What recent great games do you not drink the Kool-Aid for like everyone else does? Flame on!
WHAT!?!?!? YOU NEVER PLAYED LOZOOT!? HEATHEN!
No, I have the same deal. I never got around to playing MGS or Dead Rising or Beyond Good and Evil or a lot of games. I don’t know why, but it’s probably because other games that I was more accustomed to and more interested in won over my [parent’s] wallet. This year I’m really trying to limit my library of games I buy because we’re rather tight on money. So I’m getting Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, and that other game that escapes me [lol], and I’ll be missing out of Bad Company 2 and Borderlands, both of which look cool but I just don’t want to spend money on games that are experimental compared to the three games I KNOW I’ll love. (Plus, BFBC2 will be ruined by the ubertanks offered in the Limited Edition. Fucking DICE are idiots.)
Well, for me that game seems to be Dragon Age: Origins. Everyone else is lapping this game up, but it’s a struggle for me to even play it.
This year I didn’t get the hype for the new Modern Warefare. but I have given in to the Left for Dead 2 hype, I pre-ordered it, and I feel let down by the demo, sure theres extra content but theres the same feeling of repitition that the demo presents, how ever im sure the game itself will present more appeal once its out.
A lot of the games we seem to discuss don’t really appeal to me. Lately that includes: Anything Halo, Dragon Age, Uncharted, etc. It’s just been a really long while since a game really tore me up.
I can say that I’m waiting for MW2, Assassin’s Creed 2, and possibly Splinter Cell. All sequels, and all (so far) appear to be worth my money.
I may end up missing out on the F3:GotY. I was hyped for the DLC which was meant to be out AGES ago for the PS3 and now I’m kinda not bothered anymore. I may change my mind by next year though. Mario Galaxies didn’t really appeal to me either, but Ocarinia? Really? Well, I’d say you missed out but if you haven’t played it by now then I’m sure nothing I say can convince you now. 😛
I don’t mean to be rude; but could you explain to me why Modern Warefare 2 is such a Hyped game? I feel although im the only person who isn’t hyped for it.
@Benny,
i’m also not hyped for MW2, but (this can be my getting yelled at moment) thats probably because i’m one of the 7 people around the world that never played the original COD4.
im also not hyped for Assassin’s creed 2, but again, didnt play the original…actually, there seem to be a lot of apparently great games that i never got one board with

It’s hyped b/c the first game was so fun and the 2nd looks even better?
For me, I would say that Borderlands was kind of ok for me. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t for me.
Also, hated the first Assassin’s Creed, so while I will give the new one a chance, I am not expecting much

I played the original and don’t get me wrong it was a great experiance to play it, but for example today my friends at lunch were reptedly watching the trailer on their Ipod, and i still want the game just everyone i know wants it urgently.

Oh the reason for that is just cause people are like that. It’s the biggest game of the year cause of the multiplayer

Aw really? I felt like the gameplay was really repetitive and everything, but the story was fantastic, graphically stunning (I played on PC) and a combat system that I had never really seen in any other game.
I thought it was super unique, so number 2 is just as high up there for me as MW2.
I love the storyline and characters to ratchet and clank, but the gameplay has always felt klunky to me. also, the first left 4 dead seemed very dull, with short levels and boring controls for the infected.
I got really hyped about resistance 2 but I ended up selling it within a month.

Haha, story can’t save a boring, repetitive game for me. High hopes for the sequel though.
Jumping on the hate train, i didnt like AC a all. you werent an assassin, you were a hitman.
Also, the commercial for MW2 was the worst they could possibly made. Eminem? really? and the story looks wack, people are is space and shit

The song choice has no effect on the gameplay. And the person in space is likely a short scene, I don’t think you actually play in space.
I wouldn’t put Boring along with Repetitive. Sure, the side missions were always the same, but considering it was out before Mirror’s Edge or Prototype or any of the other “Parkour” games, Assassin’s Creed was incredibly fun just running rooftops and slicing people up and trying to get away.
It beats Modern Warfare 2 anyways =/.

Not even close, but that’s my humble opinion. Assassin’s Creeds best parts were swiped from Prince of Persia.
