Bad news for all you PC hopefuls out there: it turns out that Remedy and Microsoft have officially canceled the PC version of Alan Wake, a story about a novelist with writer’s block who goes to vacation in a small town Stephen King style, only to get embroiled in some paranormal shenanigans. Originally announced as a PC exclusive when Remedy started making the game five years ago, the development had since shifted to be 360 centric but up until yesterday it was assumed that a PC release would be following shortly after the 360 version drops in May.
As to why the PC version got canned, a Microsoft spokesperson had this to say:
“Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience “Alan Wake” was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive.”
The spokesperson goes on to maintain that although Microsoft and Remedy both have a history of crafting PC titles, this choice was all about making the right decision as to which platform could best represent the game.
How do you guys feel about this development? Considering that Alan Wake was a PC title first, this seems to be a bit of a slap in the face, but that’s just me. Not to toot the “PC is dying” horn, but this is just one more nail in the coffin. Tell us you thoughts!

That had to be the dumbest reason to cancel the PC version. If anything this game would fit better the “imtimacy of the PC” It also seems to be a bad move on their part, because they are just shutting down one avenue of profit for them. They are probably screwing PC gaming because they want people to buy the 360. they are making it anyway, might as well give it to the PC players.
Stupid Microsoft. Remedy always wanted to do also PC version. I was looking up for this game on PC, eventhough i dont have enough good pc yet. Another good game (hopefully) that I dont have change to play because I dont own 360.
In my opinion, Microsoft is killing PC Gaming, e.g. Games For Windows Live. They have killed dedicated servers, and heavy modding. Matchmaking is the death of traditional PC gaming, and when they completely kill of dedicated servers, it will be a sad, sad day.
So it’s one of the few 360 exclusives that are actually exclusive?
Idiots. “the right decision as to which platform could best represent the game.” – PC, always, any game. (besides Racing / old platform games).
It’s funny on Gamespot, every comment under Alan Wake under PC is “why the hell would they cancel it?”
Seems like they really got it wrong this time. But don’t get it wrong, PC gaming won’t die.
Well, there’s an online petition if you’re into that kind of thing

15,000-ish signatures, not bad. I guess we PC gamers can get just as worked up as the console fanboys.
Oh, we can get worked up! But atleast our rage/shock/horror is justified!
I like how they tried to give another explanation as to why they are not developing it for the PC.

why don’t they just come out and say that they want more people to buy a 360? I mean saying “some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch” just doesn’t convince me, neither does saying “We’re 50 people, and being a small studio, it makes a lot more sense for us to focus on one platform” well since they started out focusing on one platform to begin with, the PC, why didn’t they just stick with that??? oh yeah Microsoft is publishing it. oh and yeah a PC gamers rage/shock/horror is definitely justified! 😀
