Nick reminded me of this little swinging ditty during our podcast and after listening to it for about 3 seconds, it all came flooding back to me, much like Celine Dion once sang. The Genesis was not known for its sound chip, but you wouldn’t know it from listening to this. The song holds up well even after all these years and I love the little breaks before the music picks back up again. Enjoy this trip down memory lane.

The genesis’s sound chip wasn’t amazing but it was incredible what they did with it(See Ecco The Dolphin)
My favorites from sonic 2 are Death Egg Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, Metropolis Zone, and Sky Chase zone.
Sonic had some really great music throughout his games, and this is one of my faves. I also love Marble Zone and the first level from Sonic 3, can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head.

Angel Island Zone.
I played Sonic 2 a few months ago and I think I remembered this one note for note.
Not my favorite Sonic track, but pretty memorable nonetheless.
I have to concur with Eddy about Marble Zone. The music from Spring Hill Zone in Sonic 1 is probably the most recognizable, but it’s quite good too. One level theme I forgot about when I played through Sonic 2 was Aquatic Ruin Zone.
Of course, Anthony probably should have posted the “Sonic Boom” theme song from Sonic CD. I think that’s where Sonic music started to go off the rails (see Sonic Adventure and every subsequent Sonic game). I seem to recall reading that the Japanese and European versions of Sonic CD have an entirely different, and much better, soundtrack than the US release. I’d love to hear it, especially because I already think that Sonic CD is the best Sonic game ever made.
Incidentally, I read in the first issue of the new EGM magazine that Sonic 4’s music will be in the style of the Genesis Sonic games. That’s reason enough to be excited for the new game.
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww man! I just went and listened to every zone in sonic 2, haha. Took me back big time! Forgot how much I loved Hill Top and Chemical Plant…
I’m about to figure a way to hook up my Genesis…
Man, that brings back some memories. Angle Island Zone got an excellent remake for Smash Bros Brawl, too.
That was epic. [quote comment=”11376″]awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww man! I just went and listened to every zone in sonic 2, haha. Took me back big time! Forgot how much I loved Hill Top and Chemical Plant…

Try finding an older tv to hook it up to worst case scenario you have to get an emulation.
Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection FTW
Just bought the Gamecube Sonic Gems collection.
Sonic CD, here I come! We’ve been apart for far too long.
No, Sonic CD, we can’t have a threesome with Sonic: The Fighters, but I’ll entertain the notion of Sonic R joining in on our fun…
