I tend to be a bit of an obsessive gamer. I’ve written about this a few times in the past, so you probably already know that about me, but I seriously get fixated on the most inane parts of games and will sink hours into accomplishing a certain task. Whether it’s hunting for a certain weapon, achievement, trophy or whatever, I’m not above admitting that I turn into kind of a freak about trying to get things done in games.
In the past, this manifested itself as orb hunting in Crackdown. Right now, it’s revealing its ugly head in the form of mining Red Dead Redemption for achievements. I’m actually considering trying to 100 percent the game, which is something I don’t typically do. The last week or so, I’ve been finding myself just hunting, enjoying the world, seeing the sights, and it’s really quite exciting. Currently, I’m trying to find all the locations in the game, and will probably move to co-op or some of the public free roam items next.
What about you guys? Do you often like to mine games for those extra little rewards? What’s the most you’ve done for an achievement/trophy/unlockable? Go!
In Assassin’s Creed II I went all over the world looking for the glyphs to unlock “The Secret” video (I think that’s what it was called). And it was so worth it.
The best part of the first Assassin’s Creed was getting OUT of the animus and discovering the conspiracy. It’s actually why for the most part, I liked AC1 more than ACII.
I love me some achievements, but as my gamerscore will attest, I don’t really go out of my way to pick them up. What I will do, though, is explore the hell out of an open gameworld, especially if the developer has put the time into really fleshing out the landscape. Used to load up Oblivion largely just to ride around, especially after finding some of the landscape mods. Psyched about doing some wandering in Red Dead.
I’m certain that the game I’ve tried the hardest on to get everything would have to be Oblivion. My friend and I would spend hours just going through finding things. Even though, he’s done nearly everything as it is.
I’ve been doing the same with Red Dead. If you’d like to run some gang hideouts for XP towards the max rank achievement, or some advanced coop towards that achievement, just send me a message on XBL.
Yeah, Red Dead is just striking that sweet spot with me. I’m exploring just for the sake of it, and it takes a lot for a game to make me do that. Julez that video is totally worth it in AC2.
