The GamerSushi Show, Ep 8: Nostalgia and the S

Mass Effect 2 LiaraIt’s been some time, gentlemen and ladies, but we’re back with another episode of the GamerSushi show. Chalk the delay for this one up to a few things. Namely, the update to GamerSushi 2.0, which sidelined Jeff and Nick on the weekends. Also, Halo: Reach which totally ruined my week, and I’m the dude that edits it. So sue me.

In this episode, we talk about a number of things, including PAX 2010, where Mitch gives us a rundown of all the things he saw and experienced. We also chat about a number of issues including cut scenes in games, Mass Effect 2 and Lair of the Shadow Broker, writing in video games and Alan Wake, and how small games companies are killing it with downloads. At the end, we break into one of my favorite podcast discussions we’ve had, piggybacked off of the conversation about S games.

As always, we had one or two issues during the recording, and this issue resulted in Mitch being dropped from the discussion part of the way through. You’ll hear the glitch associated with that a handful of times. Just blame him for using a free headset he won at PAX.

As always, please go rate this cast on iTunes and subscribe with the handy links to the right. Enjoy!

This week’s topics:

PAX 2010
Halo: Reach mania

What are your S games?

There’s a lot more to it than that, but there you have it. It should be noted that this podcast was recorded about a week ago, before the launch of Reach and the news about the Team Ico Collection, both of which we cover. Feel free to continue the discussion on any of these topics in the comments. Thanks for listening!

  1. Great Suprise podcast are usualy the best btw Nick and Eddy your tweets during the texans game gave me a good laugh especialy kubiak shanahaning shanahans own kicker.

  2. Another fantastic podcast guys. I was thinking just a couple of days ago that it had been a while since the last one, and then bang, episode 8 is out and everything is right with the world again 🙂

Listening to you guys talk about the Shadow Broker DLC, I had the biggest smile on my face. Pretty much everything Eddy said was exactly how I was feeling as I was playing it. The callbacks, the post-mission content, pretty much the whole mission start to end was just brilliant. If anyone was on the fence, please go buy it. One question Eddy, you gave Mass Effect 2 and “A” in your original review, and listening to the discussion at the end of the podcast, would the Shadow Broker DLC kick it up to an “S” for you? ME2 has always been an “S” for me, but just wondering what you thought.

Also Jeff, if you haven’t read them, Kevin J Anderson’s Saga of Seven Suns is a different series of space opera books that I really enjoyed. There is a crap load of characters that you have to keep track of, but it all comes together really well.

Thanks for the recommendation, man. I’ll have to check them out.

  4. Great podcast guys. On Mitch’s comments on TOR, I will say that the Sith Inquisitor was one of the latest classes for them to announce, whereas I played as the Bounty Hunter, one of the first ones they announced, and I experienced far less bugs and bad gameplay. I actually found the controls to be pretty fluid, and it was nice to be able to shoot at the enemy without standing still, and wrist mounted flamethrowers and rockets were a nice touch. Conversation system seemed fine, sure it was no Mass Effect, but think about how big a fully voiced MMO has to be. Also I can’t believe you guys mentioned RE5 and Portal. Again, lol. And on the subject of Bioware, they often have a couple of laughs at themselves, like once they sold a shirt that had a Mako driving completely vertical and looked like a crossing sign. Oh, and this: http://biowarestore.com/apparel/mens-tshirts/me2-enkindle-this-tee;jsessionid=1fT1MZhXhQpJTT32w5vLbJRFL4XCQkXRLgY7xwq5S6pLTfbL3s4VDvy9MJpwKBtnV0GxQD2ntcsd2jyQJ5xpNg96bgn1PsmsZq1QFTgWzdBVyLQlyv3dt5ZQT2rlpCyx!-2143160721

  5. @supernovaforce

Actually, I reviewed Mass Effect 2, and, had I stuck around on the podcast, I would have revised my opinion on it. When I originally played the game, I was a little disappointed with the somewhat arbitrary way it decided which crew member of yours would die at the end. I was also a little put off by some of the other stuff in the game, but I did play it 4 or 5 times, so…

  6. Huh, you did too Mitch… I could have sworn it said Eddy had done the review, my mistake. I’m quite sure I could play it constantly from now till the end of time, or at least till part 3 comes out. In the middle of my 4th run through now.
