Don’t worry, GamerSushi faithful, today’s Minecraft post isn’t about some crazy contraption or a replica of a Star Destroyer (although that would be cool), but instead about a group of pissed-off protesters who are attempting to force the developer to update the game with a hack attack.
According to the blog of the head developer of Minecraft and newly minted owner of Mojang Specifications, Notch, the Minecraft servers starting having trouble last night because of a DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service, attack. For those unfamiliar with the term, this basically amounts to occupying a specific resource for a long time so no one else can utilize at. As Notch himself put it, it’s kind of like paying for your groceries with small coins, then finding out you don’t have enough after you’ve counted all of them up very slowly.
Notch himself isn’t too sure why Minecraft is being targeted, but Kotaku dug up an apparent manifesto on 4chan, which is the Internet equivalent of Mos Eisley from Star Wars. According to the rant, a group of hackers banded together to force Notch to update Minecraft which, for a half-price Alpha, isn’t being improved upon fast enough in their eyes. Here’s the group’s alleged ransom letter:
“Minecraft is currently experiencing a stimulation provided by us.
It’s purpose is to send Notch a clear message of how the future of minecraft will turn out unless he gets to work, namely by influencing the amount of sales taking place, due to the attacks.
Start providing your customers with the updates that you promise them.
We have roughly 83,000 bots available, and preserved for this seizure, we could if we wanted to keep this going for weeks, however we have decided to give it a week, and see whether or not your attitude, and commitment will change, we believe it will when money stops rolling in for the time being…
anyhow, no we’re not from roblox, or any other minecraft clone, not to mention none of us have been around 4chan for years, and nor has any real 4channers for that matter, its all newfags now, and has been for quite a few years.”
No word on whether or not this is a legitimate post from the actual culprits, but one can only assume that the real perpetrators are just as immature and short-sighted. For a one-man operation, Mojang has done some impressive stuff with Minecraft, and Notch is focused on turning his operation into a real company. While most of Minecraft’s fervent fanbase are happy to wait while things get rolling, it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch.
The sense of entitlement and general lack of basic courtesy among some Internet users still astounds me. I’m sorry that a one-man Alpha isn’t being updated fast enough for you, but at least Notch is committed to his product and hasn’t run off with his millions of dollars.

This is insane. What a bunch of complete morons. Gamers are the biggest bunch of whiners in the world and hackers make them look like alpha males.
Honestly, this kind of thing makes me glad I am a console gamer. A thing like this could cripple Minecraft and prevent it from ever recovering. How short sighted.
What a douche. I guess you need something to do when your not busy being useless. I would be like Mel Gibson in Ransom and offer up money to whoever can shut this kid down, get the hackers to turn on each other lol
