Here we go again, being all psychic with our podcasts. During The GamerSushi Show Episode 11, we got into a discussion regarding the one-year gap between Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood (which I can confirm is awesome) and the possibility that Ubisoft is looking at the historical murder-simulator as a potential Call of Duty emulator. Turns out that this is exactly what the France-based developer has planned.
In a chat with European news site MCV, Ubisoft’s EMEA markerting and sales chief Geoffroy Sardin confirmed that 2011 will bestow upon us another “big game” in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Book-ending this reveal is the little tidbit that Brotherhood was the fastest selling title in Europe for Ubisoft, and the series has cracked a total of 20 million titles moved, so very impressive for the franchise that most people weren’t too fond of at the outset.
While the sales figures are remarkable, what about that new game? Mr. Sardin dropped this little line near the end of the interview:
“Yes, Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO] mentioned it last week in our financials – and more details will be forthcoming. But what I can say is that next year we will have another big Assassin’s Creed game.”
So there you have it, confirmation from Ubisoft themselves that Assassin’s Creed will be a yearly affair. As much as I like the games, there’s something about Assassin’s Creed that makes it unfit, in my mind, for a yearly cycle. It might be the fact that there’s just way too much to do in the game, or the inevitability that you will be Metroided every single game to give each title a sense of progression. What do you guys think? Is a yearly Assassin’s Creed something you’re jonesing for? Where would you like to see the series go next?

Every other year please. Please don’t do this Ubisoft! Have some integrity where Activision have none!
To be honest, I wouldn’t mind a couple years hiatus from the game. Not only because there’s so much to do, but after this title, I think I’ll need some time to settle down. Brotherhood was, in a sense, what my friends and I wanted number two to be, and I would actually say it would’ve even been better if we would’ve had to wait a few more years for number two to come out, and just have it be both of the games in one. Ubisoft will have to do a really good job to make the next game come out a step above Brotherhood if they want to to another yearly release.
If my only other “big title” release games were Prince of Persia and Shawn White, I’d be milking Assassin’s Creed too.
All jokes aside, Ubisoft should just come out with some new Rayman games. I, for one, would welcome a return to the first thing that made them great (in my eyes, at least)
I have the fondest memories of AC 1, but the 2nd one wasn’t as “potent” to me. Then I saw brotherhood, and adding their squad shit and upgrading other people is just soo unappealing to me. If they’re going to do a yearly thing, Hopefully they don’t just keep adding bulkier and bulkier shit so we end up with a AC:Brutal Legend type crapfest.
Another publisher intent on milking a franchise dry. If the quality stays up, they should be fine, but I think it’s a mistake.
Wait wait wait Mitch, people hated this franchise at the outset?
I feel like I should point out that according to VGchartz, the first game outsold AC 2 for the 360, which is frankly shocking.

Yeah, that’s how I perceived it. I really liked Assassin’s Creed one, but I remember reading nothing but hate for the game. It does have a decent Metacritic rating of 81, but a lot more people had bad stuff to say about it from my memory.
Let it not be said that I can’t be shamed into rewording my posts, however.
Mitch, you were correct.
I hated the first game.
