Dead Space 2’s Excavations Trailer Digs Up the Plot

I think it’s almost a given that in most sci-fi settings, humanity is represented as a collection of greedy jerks, spoiling planets for our own personal gain. That’s how the original Dead Space came about in a way, as the Marker, the terrifying alien obelisk that created the Necromorphs, was found during “planet-cracking”, the method of stripping a world for resources. Since Dead Space 2 is inbound for a January 25 release (28 in Europe), the new, extended Excavations trailer catches us up on the background information series, complete with the requisite horror and gore that the series is known for.

As the first big release of 2011, Dead Space 2 will go a long way in setting the tone for what will be an excellent year for us gamers. With a new spine-chilling single player campaign and an added multiplayer mode, Dead Space 2 might just cause us to shout with joy…if anyone could hear you scream in space, that is. Is Dead Space 2 a must have for you, or a rental? Go!

  1. I played through the demo last night, and it’s pretty fantastic. About 45 minutes to an hour of playtime. It gets pretty intense at points, and during a mini-boss battle there was a death scene so absurdly gory and extreme that I laughed out loud for a solid minute in shock.

  2. I just picked up the first game when it was on sale for 66% off on Steam, and am enjoying it so far.
I’ll probably buy the second at some point, but not at full price.

I think I know which one you’re talking about Jeff, and I remember dying that same death at PAX. Imagine the look on my face when I turned around to the entire line of people staring at my controller with envy after I died that very gruesome death. Oh and I have the collector’s edition of this pre-ordered for sure.

  4. Loved the first one and will probably play this one at some point but only in the day time..in the summer…with the light on still.

  5. I might wait until the summer for this and pick it up cheaper. Mass Effect 2 is my first priority title this year.

  6. I will try to get it as soon as I can but I might wait for a price drop or I might want to get the Dead Space Aftermath movie first. Its anime with some computer animation reminds me of Vexille.
