JRPG fans unite! Hello? Is this thing on? Well, anyways, those of you who enjoyed the latest installment of Square Enix’s flagship franchise, Final Fantasy XIII (and I know there are some of you out there) can rejoice because more of Lightning and company is on the way. Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will be out in Japan before the end of the year and in the U.S. and other regions next winter.
Despite the Internet ravings, FF XIII sold pretty well and garnered mostly positive reviews. I ended up enjoying it quite a bit and though I was divorced from the story, the ending was still rather touching, so I am anxious to find out what happens next. And more of Lightning is never a bad thing.
What say you? Is this a chance to make some quick cash for Square Enix or are you actually curious to see where the story goes? Let us know in the comments!

I don’t really think the end of FFXIII was open for a sequel, but I guess everyone’s life goes on. I guess it could have an interesting premise about Cocoon’s residents adjusting to life on Gran Pulse, although Square will most likely make a huge story about corruption. I loved the first game and it’s obvious that this is a cash-in (ala Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1), but the question is, will this cash-in move the story forward, or will it be a lazy cut-and-paste job? I hope it’s the latter, as Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1 was.
From what Squeenix has said about this, they intend to beef the game up a little bit. If this plays more like a regular FF game, I will be all aboard. I really did like the characters, even though the story was all over the place, so I will be open to playing a bit more in the world of Cocoon. We’ll see how it goes down, though.
If it’s as fun as X-2 count me in.
And I thought Lightning didn’t strike in the same place twice.

You just had to say it didn’t you Mitch?
If I am podcast breaker, Mitch is thread breaker.

Prepare to be gorged.
You know, I’m disappointed they’re not going somewhere with like a toughened up and more mature Hope searching for his father who didn’t even show up in the ending, or you know, the fact that you essentially dumped a bunch of urban city dwellers who relied on robots and stuff for their daily life in what amounted to Jurassic Park with skyscraper Godzilla turtles.
But yeah, if they keep the battles fast-paced, and maybe cut down on the linearity, I can definitely see a future AAA title.

They might have something in there with Hope doing just that. I think focusing on Lightning was the smart marketing choice.
Imagine the reaction if Hope were the focal point of the first trailer.
Considering that I hated Hope more than any Final Fantasy character I’ve ever seen, I would NOT have reacted well to a trailer focusing on him.
Words really can’t describe my loathing of that character, though there is an email chain out there somewhere filled with my attempts to do so.
