L.A. Noire, the upcoming 1947 crime thriller, certainty looks nice, but people are naturally concerned about the lack of gameplay seen so far. Since the game is coming out on May 17 (May 20 in the EU), publishers Rockstar Games and developers Team Bondi decided to release a series of trailers depicting the gameplay of L.A. Noire. The brand-spanking new trailer, called ‘Orientation’, details the detective work, interrogations and shoot-outs you’ll be undertaking.
While the gameplay does bare some resemblance to GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption, the detective work and interrogations do look really, really fun, and are things we rarely do in gaming. While it’s the natural inclination of games to shoot for the starts but fall a bit short, watching faces for cues may not work as well as the trailer shows. I’ve been wrong before, though. Overall, I think L.A. Noire looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to try it out. What do you guys think? Are you excited now that you’ve seen some gameplay?
Wow. I am so excited for this game. It looks like what Mafia II should have been, just from the side of the good guys.
Looks cool and the facial animation software looks nothing short of amazing for what we’re used to in games although the eyes still look a little creepy (kinda like Young Jeff Bridges in Tron)
Otherwise it looks like a pretty solid game
Oh, duh! Using three buttons to decide whether the person is lying, telling through, or needs some roughin’-up is such an obvious way to handle truth-seeking.
omg, LA Noire looks more excellent with each trailer. Even though they said LA Noire isn’t going to be quite as much of an open-world game, as long as I can approach missions and move throughout levels intelligently, I really don’t mind focusing on the case itself as opposed to dawdling. I have a feeling that open-world games are better if there’s a large environment with a linear objective per case, as opposed to a sandbox that’s unrelated the main mission and basically just there to distract you.
Oh, and about the face animation. Some people think it’s cheating, and yeah it kinda is, but at the end of the day, it’s still just motion capture. When Tron first came out, people accused the creators of “cheating” by making images with computer graphics. Now, CGI is the norm. It’s the same dealio with Team Bondi’s face camera capture. The expressions look superb, and the only thing they need to touch up is the shadows, and also the necks sometimes bob a bit when the body moves, kinda making it look wobbly and plastered on when that happens.
I was greatly impressed when I saw this yesterday. The one thing that has been bothering me on the game is the fact that we haven’t seen any gameplay whatsoever yet, and this looks pretty good. Hopefully we get to see more before the May release date.
I think this will be the first Rockstar game where I will walk when Im supposed to
I really hope this is going to be as complex as they make it out to be. Some puzzle elements will be a lot cooler than the GTA mechanic of run here, shoot him, drive there.
The mechanic looks amazing, but the shoddy dialogue writing turned me off completely.
I’m not judging the game yet, but if the script continues in the same direction I might get too annoyed to buy.
