GamerSushi Asks: What Are You Playing?

Metal Gear Solid HD

Been a while since we had one of these discussions, so I thought it was time for a good old-fashioned “What Are You Playing” from the folks at GamerSushi.

This time of year is always a strange one. It’s about the time that you start clearing out the backlog from the end of the previous year, and you’re moving on to a number of random games that you couldn’t quite find time for before. Sure, there might be the random release like Final Fantasy XIII-2 or Twisted Metal to keep you busy, but for the most part, you’re waiting for one of the big releases from March or perhaps even as far away as the summer.

At least, that’s my story right now. Having just come off of Final Fantasy XIII-2, I’ve been dabbling in a few games that I didn’t think I would enjoy as much as I do. For one, I’ve been totally up to my knees in the Mass Effect 3 demo. That one in particular was one that I had mostly written off, only expecting just a few evenings of fun – but it’s had the opposite effect on me. I’m totally suckered into it at this point, and I can’t get enough of the leveling system and the store purchases.

In addition to that, I’ve jumped into the MGS HD Collection, and I can’t believe how much I’ve liked playing Metal Gear Solid 2 again. Sure, I’m still at the early stage of the game (the Tanker), but I had forgotten just how tightly designed that section of the game actually is. I never considered that I would enjoy playing MGS 2, but here I am. And the restoration is great. In addition to that, I’ve been hopping in and out of Battlefield 3 multiplayer sessions with Mitch, and I’m right on the verge of being completely addicted to that as well.

So yeah, that’s what I’m playing these days. What about you gents? What are you playing?

  1. Just finally finished up Dead Space 2, which I loved, especially since I got it for $5 from Steam. I’ve also been playing Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD and (inspired by that Zelda article from a few days ago), Zelda 2. I’m about to go into the last palace and probably lose to the boss a hundred times before giving up. That freaking guy will probably be on my bucket list.

  2. Today I’m going to pull myself away from my addiction to Terraria, and go back to my old addiction in Xenoblade. Maybe throw in some Arkham City as well

  3. Well, Alan Wake dropped for PC and nobody even sneezed! I just got my good gaming mouse working again so just about to jump into that. I just finished playing through Dear Esther, which I’ve got to say was quite a disappointment for $10.

Still haven’t touched Batman: AC or Alice: MR, but they’re next up on the burners now that I’ve got a decent mouse to bind things to again! =D

  4. I’m playing L.A. Noire. It finally dropped to a low enough price where I was willing to buy it. It’s fun for all the wrong reasons.

Also, Dear Esther was kind of a disappointment. The graphics were breathtaking, but it wasn’t really my kind of thing. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle Amnesia 2.

  5. When at home: Skyrim
When at Uni: Rome: Total War, TF2 and League of Legends.
Also some CoD4. I alternate between that and LoL in the games lab at Uni. I WOULD be playing more new stuff, but without my PS3 with me during the week I can’t possibly hope to keep up. I’ve actually skipped the Mass Effect 3 demo in its entirety. I’m suprised with my patience!

  6. Skyrim is still my main xbox game but on the PC I’ve been playing a little Mass Effect 3 demo and some Gotham City Impostors. I’ve even got round to buying Resident Evil 5 on the PC this week (you guys should get some sort of commission for that) probably gonna give it a go over the weekend.

  7. MW4! Which of course stands for MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries. Found out it was made freely available awhile back which is good because I could not find my second cd from the original.

  8. I as well have been playing the MGS HD Collection, along with the recently purchased Dark Souls. Just beat the Taurus demon and got the Drake sword which just beats most enemies with one swing.

I haven’t really died as much but I expect that to change the next time we speak.

Oh, that’ll change. That Drake Sword is a beast at the start, but you’ll ditch it soon enough.

You’re making me want to pick up Dark Souls again…and I just got Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

  10. Currently I’m re-playing Skate 3, forgot how much I loved the creativity with that game. Now that I have an HD PVR I will be on a content upload binge from hell on my YouTube. I’m also playing Saint’s Row: The Third as I had it backlogged since it came out and just finally got around to buying it. It’s a hectic mess of insane and I love the change of pace it brings right now from all my Dragonborn adventures.
