Huh. Things were super quiet on the GamerSushi front yesterday. I wonder why that could be… Who knows, but I do hear that this science fiction role-playing game called Mass Effect had its trilogy-ending release drop yesterday. I’m not sure, but I think it was kind of a big deal – although none of us were playing it.
OK, you got me. I totally know what Mass Effect 3 is. I’m sure I had you guys fooled, but you are much too cunning. Anyway, Mass Effect 3 arrived yesterday to much rejoicing from gamers all over the world, and this one in particular. To say that I love the Mass Effect series is nowhere near the proper amount of statement required for a set of games that I feel has defined my console-playing experience this generation. Say what you will about the choices Bioware has made, but I adore this series, its atmosphere and its well-crafted universe.
My guess is that plenty of you do, too – if my friends list was any indication. When I signed on nearly everybody on it was partaking in Mass Effect 3 in some way, shape or form, and I couldn’t help but get that twinge of release-day giddiness. There’s nothing quite like all sharing in the same experience collectively. While I didn’t get to play as much as I wanted yesterday, I managed to get past the intro and subsequent first mission, and I have to say that I’m a fan of the gameplay changes so far. I didn’t have the weird bug that some are having involving the migration of their old Shepard, so that was all fine for me. Can’t wait to jump back in tonight.
So it’s time for a roll call, fellas and ladies. Who got Mass Effect 3? How much did you play yesterday? Did any of you deal with that save file character issue? What are your spoiler-free thoughts?
I got swept up in the excitement more than expected – I’d been dithering over replacing my cold, dead 360 or starting fresh on the PS3, but I had left off ME2 just as I was getting to the endgame, and I really didn’t want to lose my accumulated choices…and then the pre-release adrenaline kicked in, so I caved and picked up a shiny new slim. Planned to polish off the DLC and get a start on 3 last night, but my evening didn’t cooperate. I did finish the Shadow Broker this morning, though. Nothing like showing up a bit late to work after a little quality time with the video game girlfriend.
Yeah, I picked it up, but instead of playing, I spent my evening watching Game of Thrones on Blu Ray with my fiance (she hasn’t seen it yet). Can’t wait to start ME3, though!
Disappointed to hear about this pre-saved character bug, and hope it doesn’t affect me. Shana Shepard has fought through the previous two games, and I’ll be damned if she can’t go through the third.
If you modified your Shepard’s appearance in 2, then there’s no problem with importing, but if the face remained unchanged from 1 to 2 then it won’t import. Kind of a WTF.
Comes out on Friday in the UK, I’m all preodered and ready to go. From what I’ve read so far its mostly positive so I’m only more excited.
Picking it up this afternoon. My first even Collecter’s Edition
I pre-ordered on Origin (gasp, it actually was an ok system [double gasp]), and played for a couple hours yesterday, ME2 definitely had a better opening than ME3, but ME3 seems like it will close out the trilogy very well. Unfortunately as I was replaying ME2 last week, I lost my save file and had to download a similar one from a save site; it doesn’t have all my ideal choices, just most of them.
Can’t talk, playing.
This is the first time I’ve looked at the site since release. Going back now. Already 20 hours in (No, I’m not kidding).
Must stop giant space squids attacking Earth. Need to find intergalactic sperm whale for help.
I was playing multiplayer earlier, a lot of fun. A giant crazy thing grabbed me but Drew (from the site) saved me with a Falcon Punch. Much more intense that any competitive online Ive played in a while.
Amazon had to make my CE a week late :'( the pain is simply unbearable
I got it a day late and i won’t be able to play until tomorrow. Also stay strong Dominic, the wait will be over soon enough.
I’m waiting until St. Paddy’s Day weekend so that I’ll have some time to just sink into it and nothing BUT it. 4 day weekends FTW! Until then, Season 1 of Game of Thrones should have arrived today on Blu-Ray so I’ll be able to distract myself for now! 🙂
So I’m a victim of the glitch. I’m hoping it doesn’t take long to fix because I can’t bring myself to play with someone other than Shana Shepard…it would just be wrong.
Luckily, I’ve got Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 to tide me over.
