PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Trailer is Smashing

The long-rumored Sony version of Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers was announced on GTTV last night and the PlayStation blog put up a short trailer explaining the game. Called All-Stars Battle Royale, the game will feature Sony characters (including some third-party characters as revealed last night) duking it out on a variety of themed stages. Check out the game in action below!

The game is a little too similar to Super Smash Bros for my taste, but for some people this will be right up their alley. The characters confirmed so far are Kratos, Parappa the Rapper, Sweet Tooth, Fat Princess, Colonel Radec from Killzone and Sly Cooper. More will be revealed at E3, so stay tuned for that. Personally, I’m curious to see if Solid Snake will be coming back after his appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and what the third party characters are. What do you guys think of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale?

  1. Despite it being a total SSB ripoff, I think no one will care. It looks good! I think games like that are pretty timless. The other great thing is that since its on the PS3, it will have more stable online capabilities Im assuming haha. Def going to be a game I will pick up 🙂

  2. Finally! I remember the first E3 presentation of the idea eons ago.

Really looking forward to it and I’m sure loyal Sony fans will not be disappointed. It looks beautiful!

  3. Super Smash Brothers Playstation is all I see… it’s really unnerving just how similar this is to SSB.

  4. I found that I’m on the fence right now. There are some great characters so far, but I agree with Mitch that it seems a little too similar to Super Smash Bros.

My #1 concern is that there’s going to be a cheap character that everyone is going to want to play as (Like Sonic in Brawl).

  5. I get the “too little too late” kind of feel. SSB was kick ass when I was younger, maybe Sony used it’s future-seeing technology and just wanted to wait 13 years, figuring most of the people wanting this game nowadays probably aren’t the same people it applied to back in ’99.

As much as I loved Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, I remember watching my cousin play Metal Gear on NES, and a Gameboy version at my best friend’s house, when I was real young. So to be fair, my earliest exposure was Nintendo… Maybe it should just be Raiden 😉 !

  6. Sold. *withdraws wallet from pocket*
This is EXACTLY what I want from this game.
OH! I just thought of a couple of characters I’d like to see: the guy from Pursuit Force and Gabe Logan from Syphon Filter. MAKE IT HAPPEN SONY!

  7. The similarities to Super Smash Bros are what makes this seem fun to me. I will wait and see who else they bring out, but it’s on my radar.
