Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC Arriving June 26

mass effect 3 extended cut dlc release date

After a couple months of silence, BioWare has finally dropped the release date for the Extended Cut DLC for Mass Effect 3, and in a pleasant surprise it will be coming out next Tuesday.

So, what does the Extended Cut DLC contain? You can check out the Mass Effect website to get the whole lowdown, but here’s what you need to know about the DLC.

The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.

So, just to clarify, the Extended Cut does not change the current endings, but just fleshes them out, which is something that they could benefit from. The Extended Cut is a whopping 1.9GB as well, making it the largest chunk of downloadable content for the Mass Effect series to date. The best part is the price tag, which is zero dollars and zero cents.

Next Tuesday will determine whether or not the Extended Cut actually changes things for better or worse, but what do you guys think? Are we in for another wave of disappointment? Will we have to re-retake Mass Effect? What do you want to see in the Extended Cut, bearing in mind that it just builds upon the established endings? Go!

  1. My feeling about this is like if Firefly was renewed for season 2. Calling it high expectations would be one hell of an understatement.

  2. I have the feeling we are going to have a RE-Take Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut, becasue people are still hung up on the indocrtination theory thing and becasue no new endings/choices will be given just more explinations of how your choices effected the universe after the final choice.

Ha, seriously? Strong words. This extended cut DLC isn’t even in the same ballpark for me. Not even close.

Right now I’m not even planning on PLAYING it because I assume the highlights will be on YouTube if I feel like watching them for whatever reason.

Haha well I might have exagerrated a bit (not by too much), but seeing as I was one of those “I don’t want the whole thing retconned, I just want more closure” people, this DLC is right up my alley.

  5. I have zero expectations for this. I don’t know how exactly they’ll clarify the endings, but it probably won’t be what people want.

I listened to the podcast that Mac Walters and Casey Hudson did on this and they were hyping the DLC. Seriously, guys? You didn’t learn your lesson?

(said podcast is through the link in the post.)

It will probably add some more video/screen shots of what happnes after the final choice. We may see what happens to the krogan and geth and see ships with FTL shipping people back home. And as for hyping it I don’t feel they were doing that they were just telling people what they did that they did not add a new ending and they know that not everyone will be pleased by this DLC and at this point they are ready for all the hate.

  7. I am very interested in this because, quite simply, it is something that has never really happened before. I am curious to see what they do, what the reaction will be and how Bioware will proceed moving going forward.

I understand not wanting to see the ending changed, but as an observer, this is pretty fascinating.

  8. I kind of hope it’s a total flop and leaves more questions unanswered by being totally contrived and convoluted. It would just be funny is all.

In all seriousness, hopefully it’s a win – win for the company and the disappointed fans, whatever is left to be won anyway.

  9. Haha, Julez when I was reading your comment all I could think of was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efHCdKb5UWc

I still haven’t played Mass Effect 3 and I don’t really know if I can be bothered. I’ve gone off of shooters recently. The sheer amount of them finally hit me and I’ve grown tired of them now. I know ME3 is different, but I just can’t get myself to play it. That and I kinda want to play the WHOLE series so if ME1 & 2 have a Steam sale (or I just go out on a whim) then I may get started on that.

  10. I think I am in the minority when I say that I understand the issue people had with the ending, but I think that people over-reacted way too much, in my bluntly-put-opinion, the larger fan base of ME3 acted like a bunch of two year olds when they don’t get exactly what they want, sure, I’ll enjoy the closure just as much as the next guy, but I get the feeling that people basically wanted a perfect ending with sunshine and bunnies. I really look forward to this DLC, but I also fear that alot of people (previously mentioned two year olds) will simply never be satisfied no matter what they get.

Maybe I’m just so jaded towards marketing double-speak that it all comes out as hype to me now. Between the interviewer’s softball questions (she works for BioWare, so it’s not like I expected SRS JOURNALSIM) and the PR-sounding responses, this just seems like another marketing tool as opposed to honest answers.

And it probably is just a marketing tool. I’m just saying that there are certain buzzwords that are warning signs and there were a few in there.

Although the media painted those upset with the “sunshine and bunnies” desiring brush, this (for the most part) is not the case. Most people just wanted more closure. However you still got the very loud minority of people that wanted Bioware to just scrap the whole thing, retcon it and redo it (highly unrealistic and insulting to Bioware).

Ah, I see, I was rather disappointed in the fan base when all sorts of media outlets were speaking about said loud minority. Well, it shall be good to see what happens.

  14. So? How does everyone feel about the Extended Cut? I for one am greatly sattisfied, I think they did a great job and I am unsure as to why they cut it from the original release.

We will address this on the next podcast, but the fact that this was not in the original release actually angers me now.
