Kickstarter is something that isn’t going to go away any time soon, what with the massive success that so many games have seen on that service.
While Kickstarter may have worn out its welcome with me personally, there are some cool projects that have come through, like Double Fine’s two games, Broken Age and Massive Chalice, or FTL.
As awareness about Kickstarter has grown, there have been some massive funding undertakings, so I think it’s probable that at least a couple of Sushians out there have Kickstarted something. So, what have you put your money towards? Anything you regret Kickstarting now?
Armikrog, a point and click adventure game made entirely out of clay stop motion. It’s from the same guys that made The Neverhood and Skullmonkeys a fair few years back. Its unfortunate though since i don’t think they are gonna make the goal 🙁
I got REALLY psyched about Kickstarter when I first found out about it, both in regards to funding independent development and getting inside updates on the development process, so I went on a bit of a binge. To date, I’ve backed Double Fine Adventure/Broken Age, Banner Saga, Shadowrun Returns, Jane Jensen’s Moebius, Tex Murphy, Broken Sword, and Dreamfall Chapters. No real regrets as of yet – I’m happy to have helped enable all these folks to do what they’re doing, and pretty hopeful about most all of the outcomes. I will say that some studios have done a fair sight better than others with the dev updates; Banner Saga and Shadowrun have both delivered good in-depth material on the processes and challenges involved, and I’ve hardly scratched the surface of the Broken Age documentary content.
I have only put one thing for it. and im excited as hell for it. Star Citizen. http://robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/
I have not yet, though I am open to it should the right one come along. The thing is, anything I am interested in usually gets fully funded right away, so I don’t feel the need to.
I also never really browse the site, as I have enough things on my backlog that the thought of funding a potential new entry to said backlog seems counter-intuitive to my goals.
But if the right one comes along, I may take the plunge.
Only DFA and The Banner Saga. Nothing else has grabbed me enough to fund them and I’m sure I only funded those two due to the hype surrounding Kickstarter at the time.
The only thing I’ve funded thus far isn’t a gaming related one but more of my music interest. I had been seaching for a particular ska album on vinyl and getting no headway on the search when I came across The 3rd Wave Ska Preservation Society Reissue Project. This was round two of it as the first one had successfully been funded and followed through. They were reissuing one of my favorite band’s, The Toasters, first album along with The Bruce Lee Band, The Slackers, and the Stubborn All Stars. I couldn’t resist the chance to help fund this and it’s since been funded successfully!
