Got to love the Onion, and their hilarious take on the ridiculous media taglines that seem to go along with video game coverage these days. In this skit, they ask the question if video games adequately prepare kids for the apocalypse, which as we all know is inevitable. Whether it’s zombies, radiation, or a combination of that and much more gruesome things, we do know that it is speeding towards us. Right? Anyways, watch the video so you can laugh and ignore the impending doom.

Rumor: Resident Evil 5 is Less Than 8 Hours Long?
There’s a rumor flying around that Resident Evil 5 clocks in at about 7 1/2 hours total running time. While there are different claims about how long the game actually is, this is what XBox World 360 is claiming about their experience with the upcoming Capcom blockbuster.
We don’t know what is actually true here, but if the game is indeed that short, I find it to be a bit disturbing. I mean, the last Resident Evil title dropped all the way back in 2005, which is a whopping 4 years ago. So basically, it took Capcom that long to produce an experience that amounts to under 8 hours of gameplay? Sure there’s co-operative play, but in my mind, you have to have some more material there to justify asking $60 for a game.
But hey, maybe I’m wrong. If this is actually true (and there is reason to believe it’s not), would you guys find this fair, or foul? Go!

Dead Rising 2 Confirmed!
It seems that the mysterious viral Dead Rising 2 trailer from the other day was actually the real deal. As of yesterday, Capcom officially unleashed the news that the sequel to the popular zombie brawler will be dropping for the PC, PS3 and XBox 360.
The second game takes place in Fortune City, a spoof of modern day Las Vegas, and from some of the ludicrously gorgeous screenshots, it looks like you will take to killing zombies in all kinds of crazy ways, including roulette tables, slot machines, and whatever else the new protagonist can get his hands on. Apparently, it’s set around 7 years after the first game, and the zombie outbreak has recurred in several cities beyond the humble town of Willamette.
Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. I think if they fix some of the save/replay options (the first game only allowed one save file and skipped the story if you were late), then itll be a surefire winner.
Who’s excited about this? Did anyone play the first game?

Even More Nazi Undead Coming to CoD: World at War
I hear that Call of Duty: World at War is a good time. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival via GameFly for me to sink my sharpened fangs into. In addition to having some great solo and co-op campaign action, it also sports a fairly wicked Nazi Zombie mode. I mean, I’ve said before that I can think of no better thing than zombies to add to any game to spice it up, and the idea of mowing down Nazi undead is terribly appealing.
I actually hear that Nazi Zombie Mode is one of the best parts of World at War, so it’s no surprise, then, that Treyarch’s first map pack for the game will have a new zombie mode map in it. Right now, the current map places you and other survivors in a house together, purchasing new rooms and boarding up windows. But apparently, a new map is coming soon that opens the gameplay up even more, and brings a “new wave of undead”, according to the developers.
Who else thinks that this rules?

Rumor: Dead Rising 2 Viral Video
So a viral video popped up on the glorious ‘tubes today, purporting to be a trailer for Dead Rising 2. While we can’t be sure, as this trailer is filmed via cam off a TV screen, it does offer some interesting teases. Say, zombies in Las Vegas? If this is actually true, then I am all over this game.
Also, rolling over zombies in a hamster ball would totally rule.

Valve Announces Left 4 Dead Survival Pack
Rejoice my fellow Left 4 Dead-ites, for Valve is releasing the much anticipated Left 4 Dead DLC this spring. And goodness me, that’s just a few short months away.
Firstly, there will be a new multiplayer mode titled Survival, which I’m guessing is just what it sounds like: surviving against tons of zombies. I’m wondering if this only takes place on the finale levels, or if it just doesn’t give you health packs and puts you into the campaigns as they are. We shall see. In addition, there will be two brand new campaigns, playable in co-op or versus mode.
On top of all of that, PC users will also get access to the SDK for the game, which will open up the floodgates of user-generated content. Sounds like L4D is about to get a lot cooler, and especially so for the PC.

Left 4 Dead Valentines Equal Time 4 Love
As some of us men with a ball-and-chain (love you sweetie) know, Valentine’s Day is coming up just around the corner. Yes, that commercial holiday in which the meaning of romantic love is boiled down to buying each other trinkets and doodads.
However, if you’re feeling a bit out of sorts, and are looking for the perfect way to tell that special someone how you’re feeling, then fortunately, there’s a solution for you. And yes, it does involve zombies. Left 4 Dead valentine cards!
Created by a Penny Arcade forum goer, these guys kind of rule. I’m a sucker for puns, and these are about as silly as they come. My favorite is the tank. Anyone else know of any other good gaming related valentines?

Resident Evil 5 Demo is Online!
That’s right, the long awaited demo for the much-anticipated Resident Evil 5 is now online for the XBox 360. The best part? You can even play some co-op with a friend, and slay crazed villagers together! In honor of this totally awesome event, here’s a sweet video of Resident Evil 5 demo co-op play. I still can’t get over these graphics. They make my heart all a flutter.
EDIT: My bad dudes! This is currently available for the XBox 360, but it won’t hit PSN until next week.
This Left 4 Dead Shirt Rules
I don’t own a whole lot of extraneous video game merchandise. That’s not to say that I choose not to, or that I’m categorically opposed to filling my house with bizarre video game paraphernalia (my wife would throttle me), it’s just not financially viable all the time. Sure, kicking back with my life-sized Solid Snake cardboard cut-out would rule, but unfortunately, it’s not meant to be.
Enter a shirt that might make me spend my money like it’s going out of style. This Left 4 Dead shirt is kind of one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. It totally adheres to the “less is more” policy as far as t-shirts go, and I find that to be a welcome thing. Who says you can’t kill zombies in style?
So, who else is drooling over one of these? What’s the coolest video game merchandise you own?

Review: Left 4 Dead
If anybody knows anything about anything, they know that zombies are the glue that hold this world together. Or at least, that’s my view. Throw zombies at any crappy old movie/videogame/book and it instantly becomes a winner. Really, I’d be happy if everything had the undead rolling like waves in the sea, overtaking the helpless innocents.
So you can imagine my excitement about Left 4 Dead. Not only because it is chock full of zed heads, but also because it is the spawn of legendary developer Valve, those messiah figures turned game makers (if you can’t tell, I kind of like them). When you break it down, it’s been hard to argue with their track record over the last few years.

Boomer In A Thong Makes Left 4 Dead Sexy
Being out of the PC gaming scene for awhile now (not by choice, it’s just that updating rigs is expensive), I sometimes miss out on one of the coolest aspects of it- community content. The mods, the skins, the updates, it’s all totally worth it to buy a game because over the course of a couple of years, you get what you paid for from what people add on.
It seems this is already the case with Left 4 Dead, as there are already mods and such for the zombie shoot-em-up. This one, however, just about made me pee my pants in laughter. The boomer in a thong. That’s right. He’s big. He’s burpy. He’s thongy. And he’s sexy as hell.
You should definitely check out the screenshots for a good laugh. Heck, download it yourself and get in on the sexy action. Anybody else seen some good L4D mods/skins?

Left 4 Dead DLC Soon?
Left 4 Dead, how I miss thee. I’m in Tampa right now and it’s been almost a week since I’ve been able to slaughter hordes of the undead with my all-powerful assault rifle or pump-action shotgun. Soon though. Soon I’ll return to ridding the earth of these vile minions. And who knows, maybe something new will be waiting for me.
According to Valve writer Chet Faliszek (dude bra), some DLC is coming out for L4D pretty soon. Nothing too definite, but it does sound like it might contain some new “scenarios”, which I take to mean new campaigns. Which is kind of awesome. The SDK for the PC should be out at some point as well.
Unfortunately for those of us silly enough to own this game on the 360, the DLC is going to cost some money, while PC users get it for free. I think it’s totally ridiculous that MS insists on charging for ALL DLC that they release, even if the PC counterparts get them for free. It makes no sense at all to me, especially since I pay a subscription to XBL already.
So, who’s excited about more L4D?

Left 4 Dead: Death From Above
Left 4 Dead has sucked away much of my waking life over the last few weeks. The versus mode is intense, addictive and most of all, incredibly fun. While I suck at the hunter, I know that there are quite a few people out there that have mastered the impeccable timing required for the dreaded wall jump of death. This video highlights a dude with what some might call mad skillz.
Resident Evil 5- Gameplay in the Refinery
Resident Evil 5 might have some of the best graphics we’ll see this gen. Seriously, the level of detail, the crisp motion blur, all of it comes together to form a stunning picture… of incredible zombie violence. And this is always a good thing. It’s nice to see some more gameplay footage, and not just trailers.
Anybody else excited about this?
GamerSushi Asks: Left 4 Dead Stories
So Left 4 Dead is out and I’ve been playing the junk out of it. What I can’t deal with about the game (in a good way) is just how epic everything is when you’re playing with a group of friends, battling zombies in campaign or becoming them in versus mode. I’ve played the game for hours already with no signs of letting up anytime soon.
As you know, if you’ve played the game, the thing that’s just awesome is that each playthrough is different, resulting in wildly imaginative tales after your harrowing escapes. I thought it would be a good time to recount some of ours.
Left 4 Dead Gets Dawn of the Dead Map
A couple of weeks ago, when I was still debating about whether or not I should get Left 4 Dead on the XBox 360 or the PC, a friend of mine told me that the custom content for the PC would ultimately make it the choice that you would want long-term. He insisted that it would just be a few short weeks before someone created the Dawn of the Dead mall. Well, he was right.
Over at L4DMods, a user has posted that a replica of the Crossroads Mall from Dawn of the Dead is already nearing completion, having been made for a previous HL2 mod. The screenshots look fantastic, and there’s even a video walkthrough. Check it out:

Left 4 Dead- Blood Harvest Gameplay
So I broke down and got Left 4 Dead on the 360. I don’t regret it, either. I had a blast playing it with my brother and a couple of friends tonight. The amount of zombies coming at you is just incredible, and you absolutely have to work together to survive. In honor of this momentous game, I’m posting some gameplay from later on, in the Blood Harvest act, where you are running from zombies in fields of corn. It ends with an epic showdown in a barn.
Left 4 Dead Now Available On Steam
Ok all you crazy zombie nuts… Left 4 Dead, the game you’ve been waiting for, is now available on Steam. I know several people on my friends list who are already downloading this game, and going nuts about it as we speak. Or as I type this rather.
So, who’s grabbing this game today and playing the junk out of it? Weigh in on the version that you’re grabbing- PC or 360! Also, feel free to leave Steam/ Gamertags, so people can get together and start playing.
I still haven’t decided what I’m going to do about this game, and whether I’ll grab it on the 360, the PC, or both, just so I can play with my 360 friends and have all of the assets for possible use in the future on the PC…
Left 4 Dead Goes Zombies on a Plane
We all want Left 4 Dead. Zombies and such. Well, part of the goodness that is L4D is the main campaign which can be played as 4 player co-op, or if you have no friends, by yourself. This campaign is split into 4 acts. So far, we only know that one is in the corn fields, one is in a hospital, and some new details have recently emerged about a third act, “Dead Air”, which takes place in an airport.
The dudes over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun have meticulously constructed what they call a Photo Essay of this part of the campaign, spoiling everything and showing you all the details that you could possibly want to know about this great zombie shooter. Beware though, there are spoilers galore, especially considering that this is possibly the last act of the game.
The Left 4 Dead demo also drops on XBL today. Excited much?

Crazy Impressions of Left 4 Dead
The more I see out of Left 4 Dead, the more I want it like a baseball player needs his next inject. All of the modes of play, the co-op, the hordes of scrambling frothing undead, it all just looks like pure entertainment to me.
That being said, it was cool to read some Left 4 Dead impressions from Rock, Paper, Shotgun today. They go pretty in depth about their experience after delving into the game for several hours, and play through the game on a high difficulty setting.
To me, one of the coolest things is the need for teamwork, the way the “Director” AI makes the game different each time you play it, and the sheer numbers of the zombies. Seriously, they said they killed over 11,000 in their playtime. No lie. Go give it a read if you’re interested in this game!
