GamerSushi Asks: Would You Rather?

Ah, since the new season of games is upon us, I thought it was time to bring back another “Would You Rather” feature for the GamerSushi audience. The last one had such solid feedback, it seemed that this would start some good conversation as well.

In “Would You Rather’, I simply ask a series of questions, and you follow up with your responses. Give as much or as little explanation as you want with your answers.

Unless they suck. In that case, a dog will come after you with mouth-bacteria.

For Sale: 1 Madden Curse, Good Condition: $1 Or Best Offer

In a story that could only have originated from EA, Bloomberg is reporting that Peter Moore, the president of EA Sports (it’s in the game) may auction off the rights to appear on Madden to the highest bidder.

“I bet you can find 50 players that would say, `I’d pay good money,”’ Moore said. “The league does a lot of work with them to make them realize how lucky they are and a lot of them have come out of poor circumstances and they give back.”

Moore also acknowledges that there is something to aforementioned “Curse”, noting it is odd how bad things happen to the cover athletes. Did Pacman Jones ever appear on it?

What do you think, would athletes, notoriously greedy as they are, ever pay big money to be on the cover of a game that might end up placing a curse on them and possibly ending their career?

Little Big Planet Has Arrived!

Went to the mall today to see a movie. The Duchess, for those that care. Not bad, I liked it. As we passed by Gamestop, I felt a great disturbance in the Force. I went inside and asked the clerk when they would be getting Little Big Planet in. She replied that they had them come in today! That sound? Was my mind blowing!

So yes, been playing for an hour and it is FUN! Have not gotten to make anything yet, as you have to watch the tutorials and stuff, but just playing it is a lot of fun. Go out there and get this game!

A Pleasant Trip to GameStop

Wow. After all these years of loathing GameStop, I think they may have softened my heart of stone. Tonight, I finally decided to bite the bullet and trade in a big pile of games in order to save money on some of the upcoming Winter releases. I figured full well that I might get ripped off (last year I traded in 6 games for a total of like 35 bucks), but that I needed to save wherever I could, lest the wife take out her vengeance.

I was pleasantly surprised.

Are We Really Ready For Next Gen?

Over the years, I’ve owned a lot of consoles. At one point or another I’ve been the master of the NES, Atari, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, Sony Playstation (uno, dos, tres) the GBA, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 64, XBox, GameCube, XBox 360, PSP, the PC and Nintendo Wii. I like consoles, and the games that come with them. Each console represents a unique period of my life, in which I had a chance to become familiar with the system like a new friend, watching as they grew into their own.

The newest generation of consoles is starting to gather its steam, and so far things have been decent. However, as of late, more and more people are starting discussions about the next generation beyond the 360, the Wii and the PS3, speculating about development and wanting to know when the new systems will drop. My question is: is it time to be talking about this already? Have the big 3 earned an investment in a new console just yet?

Sackboy’s Plea For Pluto

Looking for a cause to believe in? Tired of cynical politics? Well, Sackboy has a cause for you! Seems the newest video game mascot is more political than the others and has a website devoted to restoring Pluto (the planet, not the dog) back to planet status.

You might be asking yourself, who is this pile of burlap? I’m SackBoy and I’m a maverick, an outsider, someone who always hopes for change. But more than that, I’m a champion of planetary rights.

Saint’s Row 2 Thugs Me Out

So after forcing myself to finish GTA IV last week and feeling slightly underwhelmed, I decided to grab Saint’s Row 2, having heard from several gamers that it is just maddeningly fun. I wasn’t too impressed with what I played at PAX, but that was an early build, so I gave it a go…

As of now, I’ve dumped about 5 or 6 hours into the game in just a day, and I have to say, I could see it being more fun than GTA IV by the time I’m done.

PS3 Mod Improves Load Times

Since I know some of you are into modding and the like, I thought I’d post this little find from Engadget, where it claims that the new Intel 80 GB X25-M SSD can boost your load times.

While this won’t help on those absolutely unbearable install times on games like MGS 4 and DMC 4, it’ll certainly help on demos you’ve downloaded and on already installed content. And that’s a start, no?

Unfortunately, this thing runs the price of a PS3 and a half at $600, but hey, to each his own.

GameCop Vs LameCop #2

GameCop vs. LameCop is a feature where Anthony and I argue about video game issues, taking on the persona of either the GameCop or the LameCop as we do so. The GameCop has your best interests as gamers at heart, while the LameCop is just what he sounds like: a total loser.

This week, we tackle several issues including silent heroes, Playstation Home and Blizzard’s epic wtf weekend.

O noz! Eddy Attacked by Leviathan Summon

So there might be a slight pause in how much I post for the next day or so (and there already has been) because last night, our water heater exploded and flooded my whole apartment. It got into the living room, the bedroom, everywhere.

All my stuff is ok for the most part, but the carpet is now pulled up and we had to move all of our furniture into different areas of the apartment. I’ll have some pictures up here at some point soon. In the meantime, I’ll post the feature I’ve written. I meant to have it up last night, but uh, yeah.

GamerSushi Asks: Would You Rather?

There comes a time in every gaming community’s young life where its members sit around a campfire and share about their personal gaming preferences. Since we don’t have a fire, and I’m afraid of face-to-face interactions with other humans, I thought the interwebz would be a good place for us to share what we enjoy about gaming.

In “Would You Rather’, I simply ask a series of questions, and you follow up with your responses. Give as much or as little explanation as you want with your answers. Unless they suck. In that case, you’re cut from life.

Top 5: Video Game Binges

As you well know, the holiday season is looming, teasing us with its glowing goodness and promise of days off of work and school alike. However, there’s one other thing that the holidays bring to us every year, lumbering towards us like great Godzilla-monsters ready to trample our social lives to ruin: video games.

Sometimes, in these awesome and terrible times with nothing but free time and a pile of gaming to get through, we do things we are not altogether proud of: We binge. It’s like that inner beast takes over, a beast that isn’t satiated until we finish those games. You know what I’m talking about.

I bring you several instances where this happened in my life. Here are my top 5 video game binges:

Is Co-Op the New Versus?

When I think back on the times that define my life as a gamer, the moments that stick out to me typically involve other people. Sure there are those fantastic single player experiences like Mario 64 or Final Fantasy VII that will always stand out in my mind, but something about playing a game together with others seems particularly memorable.

To be honest, I think this love affair for me with multiplayer began in the days of the Nintendo 64, the first system that brought that LAN party feel to the console realm. I remember after school, several of us would play through 4 player titles like Goldeneye, Conkers and Wrestlemania 2000 for hours on end. We’d make characters, perfect taunts, and listen to the Bond theme play endlessley while my brother mowed us down with the RPC 90.
