Rumor: Leaked Beyond Good and Evil 2 Footage?

Not many people played Beyond Good and Evil, which is a shame because it was one of my favorite games of last generation. Much to the happiness of fans, a sequel is coming. Well, it seems that some dudes may have stumbled across a leaked video of Beyond Good and Evil 2, and posted it on the Web for our viewing.

While it’s not confirmed that this is Beyond Good and Evil 2, anyone that has seen the first one can recognize the style of the government soldiers, as well as Jade. And let me be the first to say that this video is incredible. I don’t think it’s actual gameplay, but seems to be more of a target render. If they get anywhere within 50 percent of what they show in this video, I’ll be a happy man.

Who played the first Beyond Good and Evil? Who else thinks this is awesome, if it is indeed the sequel?

Rumor: XBox 360 Full Body Motion Control?

360motionFor the love of Pete, somebody please just make this stop. After some recent rumors that Sony will be introducing motion control at E3 (didn’t they already try and fail at motion control?), it sounds like Microsoft is going to be joining the party and hoping for free money the likes of which Nintendo has enjoyed this generation. That’s right, the rumor is that Microsoft is developing full body motion control for future 360 games.

Supposedly, this will be superior to dongle-waggling in that it translates full body movement. For instance, in fighting games you kick, dodge, duck, and punch and watch it happen on the screen. It is also rumored to have video conference via a webcam, and will even have the ability for people to grab and manipulate things on their screen, a la Minority Report.

So what do you guys think? Are you sick of the motion control yet? Personally, I just want to push some buttons, but I don’t blame these guys for thinking they can make more money this way.

TMNT: Turtles in Time Remake

tmntMan. I don’t know how many of you guys played the old school side-scrolling beat-em-up Ninja Turtle games back in the day, but they were pretty much my favorite things ever. The original TMNT for the NES (with rocket-powered skateboards), as well as Hyperstone Heist and Turtles in Time were so stinking fun to play back then, I remember repeatedly renting those games and beating them in one sitting with my brother.

That’s why I’m thrilled to hear that a 3D Turtles in Time remake is underway, and is rumored to be coming to XBox Live sometime in the near future. If this is true, I’m buying that game the day it comes out and playing the junk out of it.

Who else loves this game and wants to hit up some 4 player co-op when it drops?

E3 2009 Predictions

e3Now that we’re already halfway through the month of April (seriously?), that means the whole gaming realm inches closer to E3 2009, which takes place the first week of June. While the event isn’t quite the spectacle that it used to be, gaming studios take the few days with the press fairly seriously, and bring out their big guns, especially in terms of announcements.

We are now starting to hit that gaming news drought that comes in the month or so leading up to E3 where studios pull up the protective turtle shells and wait to unleash their megaton announcements all at once. In years past, we’ve gotten to see first glimpses of things like Halo, MGS, GTA, Zelda, and the like.

So what do you think we’ll hear at E3 this year? Any big and bold predictions? Personally, I think that one of the big 3 is going to mention a new console. They probably won’t be unveiling it or showing it at this point, but it wouldn’t shock me to get a tease of some kind. Also, I’m thinking we might see an announcement regarding a new Zelda game as well as something new from the Halo franchise.

What do you guys think? Make your predictions!

The Great Sequel-gasm

ac2If there’s one thing we can always be certain of in the gaming industry, it’s sequels! Sequels until our ears bleed. All you have to do is look at the last couple of years to see that the biggest games are new installments in current franchises.

Well, it seems that the sequel talk is ramping up, as there are a few big games that will be unveiled or teased in the coming weeks. Three pieces of sequel news hit today, and it’s kind of awesome.

  • A brand new Assassin’s Creed 2 teaser hit Ubisoft’s site today, which ends with a date for a big unveiling, scheduled for next Thursday.
  • Fable II is going to be releasing some new DLC, titled See the Future, which features not only new quests, but also a glimpse down the road of time in Albion, and the possibilities that lie in wait for Fable III.

Wow. Lots of good stuff for us to feast on. Which of these three games are you most excited about: Fable III, Assassin’s Creed 2, or Bioshock 2?

Dead Rising 2: It’s Over Six Thousand

dead-rising26000 is a lot no matter how you slice it. With 6000 bucks I could buy a kick ass computer and a killer monitor. Or 6000 dollar menu burgers. Or 12000 sodas. Either way, it’s a big number. Especially when you’re talking about the number of zombies that could be on-screen at once in Dead Rising 2.

Apparently, the development dudes at Blue Castle Games, the studio making Dead Rising 2, confirmed at GDC last week that the target number for simultaneous undead baddies on-screen at once is around 6000. In addition, it’s rumored that there will be over 800 different versions of these zombies, which means you won’t be looking at the same zed-heads over and over again every 5 seconds or so.

If they can actually pull this off, color me impressed. Left 4 Dead has some of the most characters I’ve seen at once, but the thought of fighting 6000 zombies at the same time is exhilarating. So, what do you guys think? Excited about the game?

Modern Warfare 2 Teaser Dissect-ified

modern-warfare2Well that didn’t take long. In case you’ve been under a rock all day, the first Modern Warfare 2 teaser debuted last night, giving us little to go on but sound clips, flashes of video and lots of green. Oh, we also got a release date.

Anywho, some crazy dudes have already dissected the trailer nearly second-by-second, and have found some interesting things including a screenshot of some perks, potential hints at settings (South America, anyone?) and even translation of that Russian you heard. Frankly, I’m amazed whenever someone goes to all this trouble, so I must tip my hat to these fine folks.

It’s definitely worth a look if you’re interested in the game at all, especially once they start busting out the frame-by-frame captures of the montage that takes place near the end. So, what are your thoughts?

Rumor: Fallout MMO in the Works?

fallout3ps3MMO’s. Everybody’s doing them, so you should, too. One day, every game ever will be an MMO. Well, maybe not, but sometimes it seems that way, no? Heck, even ZeniMax Studios, parent company of a nifty little outfit called Bethesda, wants to get in on the action.

Yup, that’s right. The dudes that own Bethesda are looking at hiring some folks to make themselves an MMO. They’ve already nabbed some Blizzard talent, and are currently searching for additional game dudes.

So, could this mean that a Fallout or Elder Scrolls MMO could be in the works? Interesting thought indeed. I must say that I really do like the idea of living in an online world full of vaults, and traveling across barren landscapes to reach other areas. I mean, imagine living in the city you actually live in, only in Fallout style. What do you guys think?

Rumor: Dead Rising 2 Viral Video

So a viral video popped up on the glorious ‘tubes today, purporting to be a trailer for Dead Rising 2. While we can’t be sure, as this trailer is filmed via cam off a TV screen, it does offer some interesting teases. Say, zombies in Las Vegas? If this is actually true, then I am all over this game.

Also, rolling over zombies in a hamster ball would totally rule.

Rumor: 10 Games Most Likely to be Delayed

duke-nukemDelays. We all hate them. But unfortunately, we all know the pain of waiting on pins and needles to see some scrap of new for your favorite game, only to hear that it’s been delayed. Hell, it was almost no surprise to hear that Final Fantasy XIII wouldn’t be coming stateside until mid 2010. We’re all used to this kind of thing.

That’s why GamesRadar put together a nifty list of 10 games most likely to be delayed until 2010. Yes, it’s kind of depressing, but going through the list they’ve put together, I can’t help but agree. I mean, who really thinks that Gran Turismo 5 is going to come out this year? At this point, the number at the end of the title should stand for the amount of years it’s been in development.

However, I really do hope they are wrong about Heavy Rain getting delayed until 2010. Right now, it’s probably my most anticipated title of this gen, save for Mass Effect 2. What about you guys, what are you anxious for? And what do you think will get delayed?

Rumor: Terminator MMO?

terminatorOut of all the lucrative sci-fi properties floating out in license land, I’m surprised that nobody’s been able to make a decent Terminator game. I mean, the series has it all. Time travel, killer robots, bad ass characters. There’s really a lot of potential there, and so far, nobody’s delivered.

However, there’s always hope. In fact, Halcyon games, part of the Halcyon Company, which owns the rights to the Terminator franchise, has been hinting about discussions for a possible Terminator MMO. Granted, these guys are also making a Terminator: Salvation game which doesn’t look all that great, but even still, the idea is definitely a cool one.

The Terminator franchise would be the perfect fit for an MMO, in my opinion. Imagine if instead of other continents (a la WOW), the game sported different time periods to visit. Playing as the human resistance against the machines could make for some great gameplay as well.

So what do you guys think? Crazy, or cool?

RumorBusters: GTA V and Mass Effect

smashSo in the past couple of weeks, I wrote about a couple of rumors that I had seen reported around the Web Tubes. The first had to with Game Informer claiming that a new Grand Theft Auto game would be hitting this year. The second had to with the supposed Mass Effect trilogy coming to the Playstation 3.

As it turns out, both of these things are false. Earlier this week, Rockstar confirmed that there will be no GTA V in 2009. However, they do claim that the Lost and Damned DLC episode for GTA IV is not just an expansion, but a full game. I get to keep driving around Liberty City for 20 bucks? Joy!

In addition, EA commented on the rumor that Mass Effect is coming to the PS3, calling it “inaccurate”. But, they wouldn’t confirm that it would stay as a 360 exclusive. Corporate double speak much?

And there you have it. Personally, both of those being debunked disappoints me just a little. Having a brand new GTA game so soon definitely would have rocked the industry, and I think more people need to experience the brilliance of Mass Effect. What are your thoughts?

Rumor: Mass Effect Trilogy to PS3?

masseffect1You all know of my love for Mass Effect and its awesomely epic sci-fi space opera ways. As I’ve said before, it’s one of the more underrated games of this generation, and deserves a spot right near the top of the heap because of its excellent story telling, something that not many games do that well to begin with.

So, it should excite some of you Sony dudes to know that Second Story Gamer is reporting a rumor that Mass Effect and its eventual trilogy of games are all going to be hitting up the PS3. Their source says that this decision was made by EA due to the economic climate, and the official announcement will drop during GDC (also where Mass Effect 2 will first be revealed).

As I said before, this is a rumor, but even the idea of it is exciting. The thought of more gamers getting to experience such a fun title is always a welcome one. So what do you guys think?

Lame Alert: Fable II’s Knothole Island

fable2Apart from sounding like some kind of vulgar nickname for a body part, Fable II’s Knothole Island is going to be a downloadable addition that will hit XBox Live tomorrow. It offers extra areas to explore, along with some new sidequests to garner some more fame. Who knows, maybe there will be property there, as well.

One thing that it’s going to have is lots of lame. Why? It seems that one of the developers is hinting that Knothole Island is going to have a resurrection shrine, and that perhaps you will be able to reverse a couple of erm, choices from late in the game.

This brings me to one of my main quibbles about Fable II. But alas, there are spoilers. So only continue if you don’t care.

New Zelda in 2009?

zeldaAt least, that’s what analyst Colin Sebastian is predicting with his apparently magnificent prophesying abilities. In a report to investors, this dude listed a bunch of games up for release this year, and included the mention of a new Zelda title.

Seeing as how the last game released with the Wii in November 2006, this doesn’t seem to be too far off the mark. Given Nintendo’s track record in the last two years, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them bust out some crazy release dates on people part of the way through 2009. They did the same thing just this year with Mario Kart Wii, a flagship title for the console.

So what do you guys think? Excited at the potential of a new Zelda game dropping this year? What improvements or features do you hope Nintendo’s added to the mix? To think, you could have two games to play on your Wii instead of just the one. I kid. But really, share your thoughts.

Microsoft Wants Crackdown Part Deux

I find Crackdown to be one of the most underrated games of this generation, and a testament to pure platforming bliss. While the open world could have had a few more options and the story was lacking, the gameplay was addictive and the agility orbs could weaken even the strongest man’s resolve.

That’s why it’s exciting to hear several dudes including XBox Live’s Major Nelson talking up the possibility of a Crackdown sequel. Unfortunately, Realtime Worlds immediately began work on the MMO titled APB, which is essentially an MMO version of GTA, in a sense. I guess nobody knew that Crackdown would take hold like it did, despite the packaging of the Halo 3 beta. Go figure.

I can’t wait for a Crackdown 2. What do you guys think? Did any of you play the first one? Am I on the crazy bus?

God of War III Trailer Coming Soon

Well, I guess Spike TV managed to nab a bunch of rad exclusives for the Video Game Awards this year. First, they’ve teased a world premiere of Uncharted 2, and now there are even rumblings about God of War III for the PS3 debuting as well. The Awards will be shown on December 14th.

Apparently, David Jaffe, the creator of God of War III, has been talking up the graphics, saying that Gears of War 2 would be put to shame, etc. That’s mighty big talk from a mighty big mouth, so let’s see what the game actually looks like.

Anybody else excited about this announcement?

Rumor: Lego Harry Potter?

I have been waiting for a Harry Potter game that was worth a damn. I mean, seriously, you’ve got this billion dollar book and movie franchise, and you keep letting these half assed attempts come out with the same names. Is it really that hard to make an awesome game where you get to use cool magic and live in a castle? Apparently so.

However, CVG is reporting that the next installment in the Lego series of video games is none other than The Boy Who Lived himself, Harry Potter. This is good news for Potter fans like myself, who want nothing more than to deliver a bone crushing jinx to some lego Death Eaters. I’m a pretty big fan of the Lego games so far, they’ve definitely got a certain charm to them.

Anybody else think this could be cool?

Rumor: Subscription Based Gaming?

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time, but it looks like some developers are finally going after the bait that WoW has been dangling in front of them: subscription based gaming.

At a recent event, Take-Two (Bioshock, GTA IV) dude-in-chief Zelnick was heard to be talking up Blizzard’s business model, and how appealing it is for other developers. He even went as far as to talk about subscription based triple AAA titles with on-going transactions between the customer and the gaming studio. Basically, paying a monthly fee to play every game you own.

Well, that would just about ruin gaming. Ready to pay every month to play your copy of GTA IV or Bioshock? Because that’s probably where this discussion ends.

Wheel of Time MMO?

I’m not sure how many of you have ever read or attempted to read The Wheel of Time books by the late Robert Jordan. If you haven’t, you should know that they are a huge series of epic fantasy books, sometimes awesome, sometimes frustrating, but always long. They are now on book 11 out of 12, with the last being finished by a new author, since Jordan has passed on.

Well, in news that’s not so surprising, it looks like Red Eagle Entertainment has picked up the rights to do movies, TV shows, and even games based on the property. Quite frankly, I’m surprised this didn’t go down sooner, considering how many fans of the series there are out there.
