Just when I thought I had curbed the Halo 3 addiction, Bungie goes and releases this Mythic Map Pack trailer. The map pack will be hitting tomorrow April 9, and sports 3 brand new maps. I think the most intriguing thing about it is Sandbox, which has 3 different spaces for tons of Forge-ness to take place, which will no doubt lead to lots of community created custom games. And those always rule. So, are any of you guys planning on picking this up?

Star Wars: The Old Republic Timeline Trailer
Wow. Everytime I start to forget about the KOTOR MMO (or as it’s supposed to be known, The Old Republic), Bioware dishes out some kind of tease that keeps me coming back for more. Try as I might to avoid this game, I think it will inevitably grip me with a sarlacc pit fierceness.
The newest trailer features the voice of Lance Henrisken (Bishop from Aliens, duh) as the keeper of the Jedi archives. He narrates The Old Republic timeline that leads up to the MMO, and I have to say that it is both epic and enticing. Man, I can’t wait for this game.
It’s also neat to hear that the game will be taking place after the first two KOTOR games. For some reason, I thought it was a prequel. Silly me. Anywho, just watch it.
Alpha Protocol: Obsidian Evolves Trailer
A few weeks ago, I posted a trailer for Alpha Protocol, the stealth/action RPG from Obsidian, creators of KOTOR 2. That trailer pretty much blew me away, and their new trailer for the game, in which Obsidian discusses its evolution, keeps me interested as well. I have to say that I’m really curious about how this game is going to come together in a way that mixes story, RPG elements, and spy tactics.
So far it looks promising. Keeping my eyes on this one for sure. What do you guys think of what you’ve seen?
Today’s Do Want: EVE Fan Video, Day of Darkness II
EVE Online, the space MMO that is home to brigands, rogues and generally awesome dudes, always seems to come along and tantalize me. Particularly after a fan trailer like this latest machinima work from EVE player Dire Lauthris. The video is produced mostly with in-game footage (though he adds some sizzle here and there), and is also incredible. Apparently, he’s been working on it since back in 2007.
If you want to hear more about the dude’s methods, check out the EVE forums.

Cube of War Trailer
Once again, got to love the April Fool’s posts from all over the Internet today. Actually, you don’t. I mean, while I think it’s funny that everyone does gags, it actually irritates me that for a whole day I can’t read anything real online. Kind of lame.
However, this fake trailer for a new God of War: Chains of Olympus play mode featuring the Companion Cube from Portal is the opposite of lame. In fact, it’s incredible. I’d totally play this game.
When Left 4 Dead Becomes Left 12 Dead
You all know of my nerdy fanboy-slobbering love for all things Valve, specifically Left 4 Dead in recent months. As many have discussed on this before and even today, it’s a great co-op game that requires the utmost teamwork between 4 players in order to survive.
Well, what happens when you add 12 players? It becomes awesome, that’s what. Check out this new mod that requires lots of trickery but ends in good times. Kind of great.

Mass Effect 2 Leaked Gameplay Footage
I’m not always the biggest fan of watching handheld shaky-cam-o-vision, but I couldn’t resist it when it comes to Mass Effect 2. They showed off some level building techniques at GDC recently, and someone in the audience filmed it. In this day and age, you can’t expect that to not happen, right?
It’s definitely interesting to see them show the different stages of putting a game together, from cut scenes to level design. Already, it seems like there have been improvements made to the shooting mechanics. Man, I can’t wait to see more of this game.
Batman Dominates Arkham Asylum
So, I’ve been skeptical but still hopeful about Batman: Arkham Asylum up until now. Well, you can officially put me aboard the crazy train for this game, after this new gameplay video featuring the challenge rooms. These really show off the “invisible predator” game style that the creators are going for, and it’s unbelievably Batman. I worried that this was just going to be a simple beat-em-up, but this video is like Solid Snake with a grappling hook. And it’s awesome.

First Modern Warfare 2 Teaser
Well, the very first preview of Modern Warfare 2 (looks like they may have dropped the Call of Duty moniker, eh?) is now available, with the ever so briefest of teases of the game. And I mean tease in every sense of the word. While the trailer doesn’t really show us much, it does give us a release date of November 10, 2009, which is kind of awesome, to say the least.
Fez Trailer Shows Dimension-Swapping Fun
So Fez is a crazy 2D/3D platformer that just screams Katamari Damacy and awesome from every pixel. I’ve never seen a trailer for the game until now, and I have to say that it looks unique and crazy cool. The swapping of 2D plains is something that Super Paper Mario tried to do just a couple of years ago, but I have to say that this looks way more engaging. Not much is known about where and when we will see this game, but I’ll definitely keep it on my radar from now on.

R.U.S.E. Trailer: The Sneaky RTS
Ubisoft debuted a new RTS today called R.U.S.E., coming to the PS3, PC and XBox 360. The idea behind the game is certainly an interesting one. Basically, it’s a typical war-based RTS, but with a twist. At the beginning of each round, each player is dealt a hand of cards, which give special abilities.
These cards do a range of things, such as allowing your units to be invisible until they get behind enemy lines, or revealing what the other player is doing, or disguising your heavy tanks as light infantry. It’s a unique tweak to the genre, and I’m curious to see how it plays out. Here’s the R.U.S.E. trailer– thoughts?

Layoff: The Game
Ah, gotta love the news media. They can take a story about a video game and twist it however they want. Take this story about a new game called Layoff, for example. It’s a bejeweled clone which lets the player lay off workers, and instead of a high score, your points come across as the amount of money you’ve saved the company.
Clearly, this game is made to demonstrate a greater point through satire. But even still, the news show can miss that point, go on the streets, get soundbites from uninformed interviewees and then claim that the game has upset quite a few people. This is why I don’t watch the news anymore.
What do you guys think? Is the game too far?
By the way, if you want to play the game yourself, check it out here.
Alpha Protocol Trailer
Alpha Protocol is a game from Obsidian that is not scheduled for release soon enough. I say that because the trailer is incredible, and screams Mass Effect meets Splinter Cell. The blend of stealth action, great graphics, and RPG elements seems like definite win to me. Thoughts?
The New Behemoth Game Trailer
Well, it’s been a good long weekend at Austin for SXSW, but now I’m back! Much thanks to Anthony for holding down the fort.
One of the coolest things I’ve seen since I’ve been back was this trailer for the new game from Behemoth, the same dudes behind Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers. While we don’t have a name yet, we do have a date of 2010, and some great gameplay footage. It looks to be a co-op platformer of sorts, only with lots of explosions. Sign me up!
Batman: Arkham Asylum Gameplay Trailer
While I haven’t ever known what quite to think of the new Batman Arkham Asylum game that’s coming out later this year, this new gameplay trailer looks pretty promising. Combining the mechanics of a Splinter Cell or Metal Gear works perfect for Batman. Let’s just hope that it’s got some great sneaking, and even cooler boss fights. What do you guys think?
Resident Evil Retrospective
I’m a stinking huge fan of the Gametrailers retrospectives. Over the years, they’ve done an excellent job re-capping notable series such as Final Fantasy, Zelda and Warcraft. In light of the release of Resident Evil 5, they’ve started a new group of retrospectives devoted to Resident Evil as a whole. In this fifth installment, they cover what is perhaps the greatest of the RE titles, Resident Evil 4. Definitely worth a watch.
Today’s WTF: Mario Bros Vs Ronald McDonald
There are really not many words to describe this other than WTF. Apparently, Ronald McDonald wants to destroy Burger King. And uh, I guess the Mario Bros. want to stop him? Also, the Hamburglar appears. Just… wtf?
God of War III Trailer, Pop-Up Style
If you haven’t seen the God of War III trailer yet, it kind of owns. In a massive way. The game looks bigger, more violent and more epic than ever before. Unfortunately, all we really have is a 2 minute trailer that gives us any hint of what to expect. That’s why Gametrailers posted an in-depth and detailed look at the footage, complete with pop-up factoids. Fun times.
Top 10 Final Fantasy Songs
Man, watching things like this really reminds me how much I love the Final Fantasy series. Square really has created a long lasting tradition of great music in their flagship series, so I’m hoping that Final Fantasy XIII continues to deliver the great medleys.
It’s actually pretty cool to compare this list to Anthony’s Top 5 Final Fantasy Musical Pieces from a few months back, which is entirely different. Though to be fair, this video only chose one song per game. So which on this list is your favorite? Did any get left out?
Dead Rising on the Wii Versus XBox 360
Dead Rising: Chop ’til You Drop just recently hit for the Nintendo system, and it’s received a lot of flack for just how much fewer the zombies seem to appear in number than the original 360 version. While it’s painfully obvious that the Wii would never match up with the XBox 360 graphically, it really is a shame to see so many gameplay changes that will probably hurt the zombie beat-em-up we all know and love. Also, the graphics really are just not all that great. If you don’t believe me, check out the comparison video.
