Scratching the Fable II Itch

Wow, I can’t believe we’re already at the Fable II launch. I must admit that some recent videos have left me doubting about how the final product’s going to turn out, but this new TV special really gave me that itch again. It goes over the story, the world, the art, pro-creation and all kinds of goofy stuff. Give it a watch.

And now I must ask- who’s getting it?

Left 4 Dead Achievements

I’m sure most of you know this, but Left 4 Dead is less than 30 freaking days away. November 18th is when it hits, to be more specific. Since the release is drawing closer and closer, it seems like more info is coming our way in those final moments. Today, the list of the Left 4 Dead 360 achievements was released, informing those of us who are achievement whores about what lies in store for our profane hunting.

Some of the more notable ones include the Zombie Genocidest, which involves killing a total of over 53,000 zombies. There’s also the 101 Cremations achievement that you receive after setting 101 zombies on fire. Definitely worth a look if you’re interested in the game, and many of them seem do-able with a lot of work and patience. Excellent!

Saint’s Row 2 Thugs Me Out

So after forcing myself to finish GTA IV last week and feeling slightly underwhelmed, I decided to grab Saint’s Row 2, having heard from several gamers that it is just maddeningly fun. I wasn’t too impressed with what I played at PAX, but that was an early build, so I gave it a go…

As of now, I’ve dumped about 5 or 6 hours into the game in just a day, and I have to say, I could see it being more fun than GTA IV by the time I’m done.

FarCry Fridays Video

As one of the bigger releases of the holiday season, I think FarCry2 has gone a bit under-hyped in terms of some great first-person action. Just a look at this video shows some of the great things that the first game was loved for. Namely, the graphics, the variety and all the crazy explosions. Looks like a good time.

Dragon Age Coming to Consoles?

One of the more interesting things I saw at PAX a few months back was Dragon Age: Origins, from famed developer Bioware. It looks to have some great hack and slash gameplay and a great story to boot. From what I saw, it was one of my more anticipated games of the next year along with Diablo III.

Well, for those of you who refuse to play games on your PC, this should be some good news, then. It seems that Dragon Age is coming to consoles in late 2009. A Bioware dude even confirmed that it would be coming to both the 360 and the PS3.

Trust me, this is good news. This game is going to be awesome. Who’s excited?

XBL: GTA San Andreas Coming This Month

While I’m a big fan of the XBox Originals portion of XBox Live Marketplace, I’ve always felt that the overall selection of games was a bit lacking. Well, in what I hope to be a long line of sweet originals releaess, GTA: San Andreas is hitting XBL later this month.

This game will weight in at about 1200 MS points ($15 bucks) and you’ll be able to download it straight to the HDD. I actually never played this when it was out as Halo 2 and MGS 3 took up all my time that year, but I remember hearing great things about it.

Did anyone else play this? What are some other titles that that you’d like to see for download straight to your console, be it Sony, Nintendo, or MS based. Personally, I want KOTOR.

Call of Duty: World at War Multiplayer Trailer

Another in a long line of trailers is now out for Call of Duty: World at War, this one highlighting the multiplayer versus modes that are sure to be the glory of many. So far, CoD4 has some of the best console multiplayer I’ve yet experienced in this generations. I’m curious how this one stacks up, though something tells me it’ll be pretty sweel at as well. Thoughts?

Left 4 Dead Versus Mode Impressions

To be honest, there are so many great games on their way that I literally forget about a few of them every now and then. Just yesterday, I was browsing through a list of games and marking “buy” or “rent” next to them, and then I slapped myself in the forehead when I came to Left 4 Dead. I can’t believe this game is almost here.

Shacknews has posted some impressions from their lengthy play-through of Left 4 Dead’s versus mode, where people get to play as humans, zombies, and everything in between.

Gears of War 2 Dev Diary: Pixels and Such

A new Gears of War 2 diary is out, this one detailing the design and look of the game. To be honest, seeing this game in motion at PAX, I really think that graphically the single player campaign blows the first GoW completely out of the water. GoW was the first game that I played on this gen that made me say “NOW we’re in the next gen”, and Gears of War 2 might shatter all of that.

Massive Gears of War 2 Impressions

Kotaku has posted a couple of articles detailing their Gears of War 2 impressions in a more in-depth way. Up until now, people have avoided things such as spoilers and the like, but it seems that lips are loosening and keyboards are typing away.

The two articles in question are about GoW 2’s campaign and GoW 2’s Horde Mode. They’re definitely great reads, comparing the second game’s campaign to Empire Strikes Back (which is kind of awesome), and calling Horde Mode the brightest spot of the game’s multiplayer. If you liked the multiplayer in the first, that’s definitely good news.

Who else is getting feverish over GoW 2?

Rumor: XBox “720” Will Be Forward Compatible?

Once again, a part of me frets in a major way that people are already bringing up the next generation so often. Especially hearing that they are testing and rumor leaking this info as well.

This one’s kind of interesting though. XBox Evolved is reporting that Microsoft is testing “forward compatibility” for their next console. What this means is basically that XBox 360 games will be playable in the console, but they will also be upgraded/enhanced by the new console’s powers.

Ideally, this would improve things like draw distance/ load times, all kinds of things. Now if it could only take the douches off of Live… Thoughts?

Demo: End War

Has anyone had their eyes on Tom Clancy’s End War? Basically, it’s an RTS with a voice-command system, and it actually looks pretty cool. For those of you who’ve always wanted to pretend to be Patton, screaming orders at NPC vehicles and soldiers during a mock WWIII, this is your game.

I’m not sure how the voice command thing works as a whole, but hey, maybe I can try it out now that there’s a demo for download on XBox Live. Be sure to grab it and weigh in with your thoughts!

Dead Space Reviews Trickling In

For those of you interested in Dead Space and its crazy limb dismembering gameplay (in space no less!), some reviews are starting to drop in for the game’s release, which happens to be today.

So far, the reviews are really solid, ranging right around the B+ scale from several reviewers including IGN, 1Up and GameSpot. The consensus? Dead Space is the start of a great new franchise and is a suspenseful and chilling sci-fi tale with incredible audio and visual design that just happens to be a tad repetitive.

Not bad at all for the start of the holiday game barrage. Go check out the reviews if you’ve been considering this game.

Dead Space: Blood and Gore

More crazy videos out about Dead Space, this one highlighting the blood and gore you’ll be seeing when you play this game later this week. Watching these videos makes me want to play more and more, but like I’ve said before, I’m a little girl when it comes to scary games.

Fable II Gun and Swordplay

A new video is out showcasing some of the combat from the upcoming Fable II. I’m still very curious if this game can live up to all of the hype surrounding it, especially after the last one was considered such a letdown compared to all of the promises. I think I may ask my family for this one for Christmas, so I don’t spend my own money on it.

How about you guys? Who’s buying it?

Why Do You Love Your Favorite Console?

With apologies to Episode III: Revenge of the Sith…

Console War! Sony and Microsoft are battered by the ruthless onslaught of the Nintendo Wii. There are exclusives on all sides. Fanboys are everywhere!

So even the most non-partisan gamer has a favorite console. I hate the console wars, but I prefer my PS3 to all others. Why do you guys like your console?

Fallout 3: March to the Monument

Some new Fallout 3 gameplay videos have dropped courtesy of GameTrailers, featuring different locales, enemies and a variety of weapons. This video here is probably the most epic one, documenting a march to the Washington monument through apocalyptic streets and tons of cool big guns. Check it out.

New Releases: Dead Space and More

Well, that crazy Fall/Winter season that we’ve been anticipating must have totally snuck up on us. Did any of you know that Dead Space was dropping this Tuesday? I certainly missed that somehow.

After all of the cool things I’ve seen about this game, it’s nuts that its release has been kind of downplayed compared to other ones. I guess people are holding their breath about it. I mean, it is by EA after all.

And there’s actually more coming than that…

TGS: Fallout 3 Trailer

Ah, Fallout 3. That game that continues to tease me. I’m seriously terrified of buying this game because of what Oblivion did to me. Basically, I spent 25-30 hours just robbing houses. Seriously. Open world games just own me that bad. I get addicted to the most inane things.

If I get this one, there’s no telling what silly activity might sidetrack me from the hours of gameplay packed inside of it. Anywho, there’s a new trailer from TGS. Cool beans.

First Day Co-Op for Fable II

So I guess we’re supposed to celebrate the fact that a new feature is finished for Fable II that should have been included in the game in the first place. Several weeks ago, Lionhead Studios let slip that Fable II’s co-operative online play wouldn’t be accessible when the game launched. Rather, they would be working on a patch for it.

However, it seems those crazy dudes have gotten their act in order, and the co-operative patch will be ready the day you buy the game. Joy!
