Mirror’s Edge Arrives, Sneaky Style

So in all the hoop-lah from Gears of War 2 over the weekend, I forgot that Mirror’s Edge was going to show up today. Today! I’m totally at a loss for how I’m going to manage to play this game with everything else, seeing as how I need to move on to other games, but keep playing Horde mode. Anywho, there are some new videos out on GameTrailers showing even more of this awesome gameplay, and reviews are starting to come out everywhere as well.

The question, as always- who’s actually picking this up today? Let us know!

Consoles Going Extinct?

While I’ve sometimes engaged in the discussion that this console generation just isn’t quite cutting the mustard in terms of offering a true next generation experience, I often find myself alone in that opinion. This becomes especially apparenty after browsing through other gaming blogs, where nobody seems to be raising or caring about this issue, or demanding more from the current generation.

That’s why it was really refreshing to read a new editorial over at ClickZ, where Kevin Carney wonders if consoles are becoming extinct because of “casual gaming” as well as the Internet. He argues that this generation lacks any true sense of innovation that others generations have had, and is retreading the same material.

Finish Him, MK vs DC Universe Style

A new video is out that showcases some of the finishing moves found in the soon-to-be-unleashed Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe game, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. While the middle schooler in me wishes that these were proper Mortal Kombat fatalities from the days of yore, it’s still incredible to see Superman whack-a-mole a dude down into the earth.

What were some of your favorite Mortal Kombat fatalities? I was a big fan of Liu Kang’s dragon bite in MK 2, personally.

LBP Levels Moderated, Swallowed by Vast Maw

Got LittleBigPlanet? Love lots of intellectual property? Love creating levels? Love mixing those two things together? Well, be careful, because it seems that Media Molecule is obliterating- excuse me, moderating- dozens of LBP user created levels without warning, They are now being absorbed into the wide maw of the Internet, never to be heard from again.

There have been many reports of players unable to access their maps any longer, with little to no messaging from the dudes behind Sackboy and his lovable little friends. Hopefully, this issue gets resolved, though I imagine it’s sticky ground for LBP and its creators to deal with violations of copyright, as it’s some of the trickiest stuff in law.

Do you think this ruins the fun of LBP in some small way? I’ve heard some of the best levels are Batman, Pacman and Sonic related.

Up On My Soapbox: Censoring Video Games

First things first: I am a flaming liberal who believes in a high amount of freedom. So I don’t believe in censorship of any kind. I do understand and support the need for a rating system, both in movies and in games. Nothing pisses me off more than when I go to see Zach and Miri Make A Porn and in the middle of a movie, a couple of 14 year olds stroll in. Hearing 12 years old talk about GTA and Gears of War irritates me as well because those games are for adults.

More KOTOR MMO News

CVG has up some updated information regarding the working KOTOR MMO that everyone in the entire universe (and by that I mean myself) is itching to play. The main feature in this article is about the single player experience, or that the MMO is designed to feel more like Bioware’s single player games, rather than the typical MMO with endless grinding and no substance.

The cool bits of the article relate to character customization, which will apparently be fairly robust as well as the companion characters, which are NPC party members who interact with you just as they do in other Bioware games. It really sounds like they want to give players the KOTOR they’ve been waiting for, in addition to a great MMO.

You Got Link in my RE4

We don’t like to post two videos in a row here, but this one is so cool I just had to make the exception. This is some kind hack/mod of Resident Evil 4, where a Link model was added. It is kind of awesome looking, and I kind of wish that the whole thing was in Hyrule, etc. Give it a watch.

Pitch Your Game: Ridiculous Version

Here at GamerSushi, we’re not only about talking about our favorite video games, we’re all about being creative and making them, too. Granted, none of us are developers, coders, artists, and any of that stuff. But we can play a mean lick on Guitar Hero or pull off a triple jump on Mario. That should be enough right?

Since we’re completely qualified to make up new games, we figured we’d start off with some of the most ludicrous, ridiculous, cheesy and stupid ideas for video games that we could think of, in a new feature called “Pitch Your Game!”

Call of Duty: World at War Launch Trailer

Get your grunge rock hats and gaming helmets on, because the Call of Duty: World at War launch trailer is upon us. I can’t believe this game is out this coming Tuesday. Lots of sweet explosions, slow motion headshots, and action galore. Can’t wait!

Who Else Got Gears of War 2?

So I got Gears of War 2 at midnight last night, and then played til just after 4 in the morning, central standard time. I’m about to hop on it again, too. I got about almost halfway through the game I’m guessing, and I wanted to leave a few impressions.

If you were even remotely a fan of the first campaign, get this game. So far, I’d have to say it’s tougher, huger and more epic than the first. There are constantly more enemies, more objectives, and all the new gameplay features work out really well together. I haven’t even dipped into the multiplayer modes yet, but I think the campaign is going to be a distraction for hours to come. Save for one completely out of place level (you’ll know it when you play it).

So yeah, weigh in if you got this game already or plan on getting it in the near future. If there are enough of us, I’d like to try a GamerSushi community match at some point in the near future. Let me know!

Sims 3 Developer Walkthrough

Man, the more I see about Sims 3, the more I am intrigued. There is a new video out where the developers show you some of the features in terms of creating characters and your area, etc. While I still am not sure how I feel about getting the whole neighborhood to do stuff with, I really like the way things are shaping up.

The graphics, oddly enough, look awesome, and I love the options that players are going to have at their disposal. The Sims was one of those games that would suck me in for hours at a time, so I’ll have to be careful how I treat this one, but I’m definitely interested. Who else is looking forward to it?

Gamepro’s List of Top 26 RPG’s Of All Time…

Gamepro.com just released their list of the 26 Best RPGs and like every list, this one seems destined to start up some controversey. And I am happy to oblige. No LARP’s allowed!

Sega to Sell Retro and Happiness

In news that is totally awesome, it seems that Sega is going to be packaging Sega games, Master games and 80’s arcade games in a hugely ridiculous bundle for sale on the XBox 360 and Playstation 3 in early 2009.

I know, this might sound like one of those “big effing deal” kind of things, but wait until you hear just how many games are going to be included. Forty. That’s right, the big four zero. It will include the three big Sonic games as well as Streets of Rage, Ecco the Dolphin, and more.

The Sega Genesis was one of my favorite systems ever, so it’s really great to hear this news. Basically, they will be selling me my childhood on a disc, and I will give them money hand over fist to remember those blissful halcyon days. Anyone else excited about this?

EDIT: In a very “dude” worthy move, Sega has posted the official list of games for the Ultimate Collection. It has games like Comix Zone, Shinobi III, Vectorman (I and II), Shining Force II, Phantasy Star, Sonic, and way more. Check it out.

Today’s WTF: Video Game Endings

So I stumbled across MasterofHyrule’s YouTube page today, and he’s got some pretty hilarious videos concerning video games on his account. I think maybe the best and most awesome series has to be “Lame and Horrible Video Game Endings”, of which there are four installments. Basically, he just shows some of the most ludicrous (and WTF enducing) video game endings of all time, for your enjoyment. Check out his page and give this one a watch.

5 Features That More Shooters Need

Shooters, shooters, shooters. Gaming is full of them these days. I mean, one has to look no further than this year’s gaming line-up of heavy hitters and system sellers like Call of Duty: World at War, Resistance 2, FarCry 2, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Mirrors Edge, Quantum of Solace and the like to see that shooters have replaced the titles of old.

With all of these titles coming out, it’s easy to start wanting a little more from the genre. At this point, we’ve slaughtered so many imps in Doom and Nazis in Wolfenstein 3-D that we kind of know what to expect.

Big Shiny New White Knight Video

If you’re a PS3 fan and an RPG fan, then you’ve no doubt heard of Level 5’s White Knight Chronicles, the new RPG from the DQ makers that will be hitting Japan this Christmas. From what I’ve seen of the game so far, there’s plenty to be excited about, and their track record for wicked RPG’s is nothing to scoff at.

If you’re interested, PS3 Fanboy has posted a 14 minute video of some of the TGS walkthrough of White Knight Chronicles. It takes you on a tour through Level 5, as well as shows you some making-of shots, and even a few minutes of gaming footage towards the end.

Personally, I’m glad to hear some more RPG news coming out of either camp, as RPG’s seem to be a dying breed on consoles these days. I think this is one of the reasons Fable II has done so well after being reviewed as being just below great. People just need them some good ol’ fashioned role playing and fantasy video games.

Crazy Impressions of Left 4 Dead

The more I see out of Left 4 Dead, the more I want it like a baseball player needs his next inject. All of the modes of play, the co-op, the hordes of scrambling frothing undead, it all just looks like pure entertainment to me.

That being said, it was cool to read some Left 4 Dead impressions from Rock, Paper, Shotgun today. They go pretty in depth about their experience after delving into the game for several hours, and play through the game on a high difficulty setting.

To me, one of the coolest things is the need for teamwork, the way the “Director” AI makes the game different each time you play it, and the sheer numbers of the zombies. Seriously, they said they killed over 11,000 in their playtime. No lie. Go give it a read if you’re interested in this game!

Mirror’s Edge Impressions: Free Running Bliss

So last week, the Mirror’s Edge Demo dropped with a mighty splash on Sony’s PSN as well as XBox Live, bringing with it the stylized First Person Platformer that we’ve been catching tantalizing glimpses of for months.

The demo comes with a trial mode (if you’ve pre-ordered the game) as well as a tutorial and a small bit of the single player campaign. Having been excited about this one for a few months, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and give it some control time myself. So how does it hold up?

Gears of War 2 Opening Cinematic

Since I did it for Left 4 Dead, I couldn’t help but post the opening cinematic for Gears of War 2. From the looks of it, this game is way more cinmea-riffic than the first one, which only had a small amount of cutscenes. I’m loving the tone, and the crazy battle sequences set up the game to be pretty huge and dark. Loving it. I might pee a little when I play. But only a little.

A Gaming Emergency!

So I’m exactly in the position that i didn’t want to be in: I’ve got a bunch of games to play, and I’m dabbling a little in each one, without ever really jumping into one to finish it.

Right now, I’ve got: Fable 2, Saint’s Row 2, Fallout 3 and Little Big Planet sitting in my apartment, and I’m just knocking out a bit here and a bit there. To top it all off, Gears of War 2 releases later this week, and after playing the Mirror’s Edge Demo (more on that later) and seeing the new Prince of Persia trailer, I’m in a bad spot.
