Scott Pilgrim Brings The Retro Gaming Easter Eggs

As some of you may be aware, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is set to come out in theaters tomorrow. For those of you who have not seen the preview, I urge you to google it right the hell now. If you like video games, you will, at the very least, be amused by the trailer.

The movie is based on a graphic novel, which contains tons of references to old school games, some so old that I had forgotten about them completely until now. Our good friends at GamesRadar put together a nifty little list of them and I thought it might be fun to share it with you guys.

Personally, the River City Ransom “BARF” and the coins dropping are my favorites. I’ve always had a soft spot for that game, ever since I first read about it in Nintendo Power back in the 80s. What references did you think were cool? Are you planning on seeing the movie?

BARF! I mean, GO!

  1. I was immediatly turned off of it seeing Cera in the previews, but then I read the comic and decided I could put up with him for the good of the movie.

Can’t wait till the release tomorrow. Leaving work early to see it.

  2. I’ve never read the graphic novels but I’m seriously dying to see this. I’m a huge fan of anything Edgar Wright does, so count me in.

  3. I’m not a huge fan of Cera but he’s touched a few sweet movies…

During ‘Reviews on the Run’, (Canadian television equivalent of whatever X-Play you guys get) one reviewer at Comicon said “forget Inception, I’m saying Scott Pilgrim for movie of the year”… or something along those lines.

I wasn’t pumped on the trailer, but I definitely wanna see this film.

  4. I am a huge fan of the series and it only started when a trailer poped up on Gametrailers which made me interested.
