Ladies and dudes, the time is here: the fall season of gaming is officially upon us, and all we can do now is paddle as hard we can to keep up with the avalanche of titles falling to our TVs and monitors. Sure, I’m mixing metaphors here a little bit, but the point here is the same: lots of games are coming out, and you no doubt want to play a large share of them. Yes, even though Little Big Planet 2 has been delayed.
Since we’re so nice, we’ve put together an epic list of our 30 most anticipated upcoming games of 2010. You’ll be surprised at just how much is waiting for you. We’ve got everything from RPGs to zombies, DS exclusives and sprawling PC MMOs. Check it out!
Fall Releases of 2010
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Developer: Treyarch
Release Date: November 9, 2010
Treyarch studios are back on the docket for 2010, trading off with CoD mainstay Infinity Ward once again. This time around they aim to make Call of Duty even crazier with a Cold War setting, multiplayer replays, wager matches and the return of Nazi Zombies. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this game set some sort of sales record.
Fallout: New Vegas
Developer: Obsidian
Release Date: October 19, 2010
Bethesda steps aside and allows Obsidian to venture forth into the Wasteland in the follow-up (but not sequel) to 2008’s epic RPG, Fallout 3. Players take the role of a courier, shot and left for dead in Nevada, as he tries to unravel the mystery of why he was almost murdered. Expect lots of casino mini-games and a less desolate landscape to explore.
Fable III
Developer: Lionhead
Release Date: October 26, 2010
In the third entry to Lionhead’s anticipated but up-and-down 360 franchise, players will finally see what it’s like to play the hero and also the ruler of Albion. Your decisions not only affect the story but the fate of the entire kingdom as well. Expect Fable’s unique atmosphere, more powers, better combat and perhaps even some “god” type gameplay as you run your kingdom. Third time’s the charm?
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Developer: Ubisoft
Release Date: November 16, 2010
Jokingly called AC: ODST by some (us), there is more to Brotherhood than first impressions. While Ezio is back, modern day sequences of Desmond as an assassin have also been confirmed. Add into that the rebuilding of Rome as your own city, and that it’s the first AC game to have multiplayer, and you’ve got a full quality release on your hands. Assassino!
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Developer: MercurySteam
Release Date: October 5, 2010
Hideo Kojima supervised this 3D reboot of the classic vampire slaying series from Konami. Eschewing the typical Metroidvania formula of the 2D games, Lords of Shadow is a more linear action game, having more in common with God of War than Symphony of the Night, but the graphics look top-knotch and early reviews are full of praise, so get your whips ready. For the game, not for anything else, you kinky monsters.
The Force Unleashed 2
Developer: LucasArts
Release Date: October 26, 2010
LucasArts is bringing back Galen Marek, aka Starkiller, for a tale of lost loves, betrayal and revenge. We know that the Starkiller in this game is a clone, made to serve Darth Vader, but he breaks free to forge his own destiny. Fan favorite Boba Fett also makes an appearance in a game that promises to build on the foundation of the first.
Gran Turismo 5
Developer: Polyphony Digital
Release Date: November 2, 2010
The most recognized name in video game racing returns with enough features to make even the most uncaring PS3 fan excited. Online? Check. External damage? Check. With more than 950 cars to choose from, including NASCAR licenses, GT 5 hopes to make up for the long delay since GT 4 way back in 2005.
Bad Company 2: Vietnam
Developer: DICE
Release Date: Q4 2010
If you loved the multiplayer component of Bad Company 2, then the “Vietnam” DLC add-on is going to be just what you’re looking for. With 4 new maps plus different vehicle and weapon settings, this isn’t just a run-of-the-mill update to a game many know and love. There is a ton of new content to experience, as well as new places to blow up and see crumble in the Frostbite engine. What’s not to love?
Costume Quest
Developer: Double Fine
Release Date: October 31, 2010
Costume Quest just screams that it’s the kind of game that makes you feel like a kid again. Taking control of a party of trick-or-treaters on Halloween night, you and your companions are out to save a girl from being mistaken for candy and devoured by real monsters. Your costumes form your battle arrangements, from giant robots to rainbow unicorns. Hardest part of all? Getting in by curfew.
Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light
Developer: Matrix Software
Release Date: October 5, 2010
From the makers of the remakes of Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV, this side story in the Final Fantasy series has a stellar pedigree to fall back on. Streamlining the usual JRPG mechanics, replacing MP with Action Points and reviving the ever-popular Job System, this DS entry shows great promise for those hankering for some old-school JRPG goodness, but in a modern aesthetic.
Definitely gonna buy Dead rising 2 AC:ODST New Vegas and my surprise pick is Castlevania which really impressed me with that last trailer I might rent NBA Jam fall is looking really nice right now.
Um, WoW Cataclysm?
Page 2 under MoH, SK.
Excellent job on this Eddy. This took a long time to put together even with all three of us, and you put in the extra effort to get it all formatted and looking so nice. Kudos!
I’m looking forward to Black Ops and New Vegas, and Enslaved looks interesting, so I’ll probably get those three games. Other than that, I’m far too poor. lol It’s funny because it’s sad because it’s true.
Definitely going to pick up AC:Brotherhood, Kirby and Donkey Kong. Never got into COD or Fallout so those will probably get missed. Might pick up Epic Mickey and/or Vanquish if time and money allow. I’m a bit wary of Goldeneye, really not sure how that’s going to pan out, but it could be worth a look.
I’d say my big titles are: Fallout: New Vegas, Black Ops, GT5, Fable 3, Costume Quest, Epic Mickey, NBA Jam, Brotherhood, Dead Rising 2 and Enslaved. Also, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, which didn’t end up on this list.
new Vegas, Black ops are my two top games. Everything else is a wait and see.
